Course Level:Postdoctoral
Scholarship Provider: SRC
Scholarship can be taken at: Sweden

Eligibility:

The following skills and experiences are required for a successful applicant:
-in-depth knowledge and application of GIS and remote sensing tools applied to landscape resource assessments in tropical environments.
– capacity to critically use and develop data sets at landscape scale in data-poor locations. ability to link ecosystems impacts to natural, and human induced drivers of change.
– demonstrated capacity to use statistical software and relevant GIS packages for modelling of environmental change at landscape scale.
-achievement of PhD degree at recognised academic institute within 3 years from application deadline. track record of relevant scientific peer reviewed publications and presentations.

Scholarship Description: We are now seeking a post-doc to contribute to the WP ‘Environmental impacts’ to carry out research on observed and potential impacts of larger-scale adoption of water harvesting technologies. Particular focus will be on ecosystem services related to water resources, carbon and nutrient circulation, and biodiversity, which we believe can be affected both positively and negatively depending on the context and the scale. The post-doc will contribute to our understanding of slow and fast changing variables that potentially affect the long-term sustainability of agro-ecosystems at the landscape scale. The research will collect and develop empirical data and use existing and new models for simulation of impacts. The field sites are located in Tanzania and Burkina Faso, but research protocols, methods and tools can also be applied in Ethiopia and in dialogue with partners in the WHaTer project. This work will be integrated with other SRC activities related to smallholder framing systems and transformations of rural landscapes, with focus on tropical semiarid and sub-humid regions, under the research theme “Freshwater, food and ecosystem services”.
