Scholarship
Description: The University of Cape Town (UCT) is a leading
African university. At UCT’s Energy Research Centre (ERC), research groups
focused on energy modelling and climate change are developing
energy-economic-climate models, to inform national development planning, energy
and climate policy. There are several activities, with these particular
award(s) being part of a CSIR-led programme to develop an integrated assessment
model (IAM) for South Africa, and support for climate change mitigation,
technology and finance from the NRF. The Centre is inviting applications
from PhDs from South Africa, other African countries and other developing
countries. Candidates from any country may apply. The successful candidate will
be supervised by a senior researcher at ERC in either the modelling or climate
groups. Applicants must have received their PhD in the last five years, and not
previously held an academic post. Candidates would expect to engage with the
ERC team’s research activities, and should indicate what relevant skills they
bring, either in modelling (energy, economic, IAM), collection and analysis of
energy demand and other data, and / or analysis of climate
change mitigation (a focus on technology and finance will be an
advantage). Fellows should have excellent quantitative (Excel, database) and
writing skills.
