Postdoctoral Fellowship in Epoch of Reionisation of Science in Australia

The School of Physics, University of Melbourne is
offering full time postdoctoral fellowship for Australian and international
applicants. This fellowship is available for a highly motivated post-doctoral
researcher to take a major role in the analysis of the Epoch of Reionisation
dataset from the Murchison Widefield Array. Duration of fellowship is of three
years which covers salary. Applicant must have a doctoral degree in
Astrophysics or a related area. Application deadline is 1 November 2013.

Scholarship Description: This position, based at the School of Physics, at the University of
Melbourne, will provide the opportunity for a highly motivated post-doctoral
researcher to take a major role in the analysis of the Epoch of Reionisation
data set from the Murchison Widefield Array. The candidate will join a team
working on the pipeline and data analysis at the University of Melbourne, and
would work closely with other CAASTRO investigators and the MWA EoR
collaboration team both in Australia and internationally.
Duration of award (s): This appointment will be for 3 years.
What does it cover? Salary: $61,138 – $82,963 p.a. (PhD entry level $77,290 p.a.) plus
9.25% superannuation.
Selection Criteria:
– A PhD or equivalent in Astrophysics or a related
area.
-Expertise in statistical analysis, in particular using power spectra.
-A demonstrated aptitude for research with a sound record of publication,
commensurate with experience and opportunities.
-Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in collaboration with
others.
-Good data analysis and programming skills.
-Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
-Expertise in statistical analysis of extremely large data sets.
-Expertise in radio astronomy.
-Experience in the supervision of students undertaking undergraduate projects
and higher degrees.
-Research interests in cosmology and extragalactic astrophysics
