Plan Construction Engineer Job Vacancy in Ghana

Plan Ghana an international child centered community development
organization is implementing the Ghana Transition and Persistence (TAP) project
funded by USAID, and has a vacancy for the recruitment of dynamic and results
oriented persons to fill the positions listed below from January 2012 to August
2013.


Job Purpose:
To oversee all the construction and equipping of schools and support facilities
for 156 Junior High Schools under Component 1 of the Ghana TAP project.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the design, oversight, and monitoring of school construction
activities;
Oversee construction contractors and architectural supervision firms;
Supervises and manages the performance of five Construction Technicians
Provide technical support and coordinate capacity building training to School
Management Committees (SMCs) on procurement and construction management;
Ensure environmentally sustainable and structurally sound construction
materials and techniques;
Manage the selection of building contractors and the procurement of
construction materials and equipment;
Monitor construction sites to ensure construction quality and also contractors
working on the project;
Provide detailed and accurate written reports to fulfill project technical
requirements;
Coordinate joint activities with the Chief Of Party and the Education
Specialist;
Lead Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and oversee compliance with
mitigation measures
Prepares Environmental Mitigation Monitoring Plan and checklist in compliance
with the requirements
Develops Environmental Review Form and screens sub-grant proposals to ensure
that funded proposals will have no adverse impact on the environment
Fulfill Plan’s Child Protection policy at all times to protect children from
all forms of abuse

Required Skills or Experience

 At least Masters degree in Construction/Civil Engineering, or related field
Trained in environmental impact assessment
Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in all aspects of construction
management in Ghana

Skills specific to the post:
Proven solid construction oversight; Good leadership; Analytical; Good
communications; Excellent report writing; Strong team-building; Strong
negotiating, facilitating and influencing skills. Proficient in Microsoft
applications and use of relevant software and other applications.
