In this role, you will:
* operate, maintain and modify complex computerized analytical systems
* prepare samples and conduct analysis using complex scientific equipment (e.g. Gas Chromatograph-High Resolution Mass Spectrometer (GC-HRMS))
* participate in research and development
* maintain current knowledge in field expertise
* carry out quality analysis of routine and non-routine samples

What we are looking for:
Environmental and Legislative Knowledge:
* you can apply the theories, principles and practices of organic, inorganic, analytical and environmental chemistry
* you have expertise in chromatography and knowledge of common analytical procedures related to preparing and analyzing environmental samples of various matrices
* you know quality assurance and quality control principles and practices
* you can interpret and apply environmental and health and safety legislation and regulations (e.g. Safe Drinking Water Act, Environmental Protection Act, Fisheries Act and Research Animals Act, WHMIS and Material Safety Data Sheets)
Laboratory and Technical Skills:
* you have experience applying laboratory procedures, standards and techniques
* you know the scientific principles and practices applicable to test protocols, procedures, methods and analytical systems
* you can apply the principles of laboratory statistics, experimental design and quality management
* you know instrumental analysis and relevant computer, electronics, optics and principles of physics, sources of analytical error, calibration, statistics and associated mathematics
Analytical Skills:
* you can use your diagnostic and evaluative skills to confirm and review scientific results and resolve problems arising out of testing and data interpretation
* you have highly developed analytical and reasoning skills to ensure data reliability
Communication and Computer Skills:
* you communicate in a clear and concise manner
* you know how to draft written materials including scientific reports in scientific terms and in clear language
* you know how to use common computer software (e.g. spreadsheets and word processing) and have computer programming skills
Salary range: $1,246.04 — $1,520.21 per week
