Abstract
This research examined the nutritional knowledge among literate and
non-literate women in Akwukwu-Igbo, Oshimili North Local Government Area, Delta
State. To guide this study four research questions and hypotheses were drawn
and formulated. A descriptive survey research method was adopted for the study
while the stratified random sampling technique was used to select a sample size
of 100 respondents. The instrument for data collection was structured
questionnaire and oral interview. One hundred questions were administered and
personally carried out. Data collected were analyzed using frequency
distribution tables, simple percentage and chi-square at alpha 0.05 level of
significance. The data collected revealed that education plays a major role in
nutritional status, majority of the women have awareness against poor
nutritional status and they have knowledge on how to control and prevent poor
nutritional status. Based on the findings, the researcher recommends that
nutritional education should be introduced into our educational programmes.
Also government should carry out jingles and adverts on nutritional standards
policy.
