Position Overview:

Not Far From The Tree, a project of Tides Canada Initiatives Society,
puts Toronto’s abundanc

e of local fruit to good use by picking and
sharing the bounty. We engage and mobilize Torontonians to steward the
food-producing trees in our urban forest. Our innovative and
award-winning programs promote urban ecology, activate local food and
build social cohesion.

The Community Animator will work with the Community Engagement
Specialist to organize and run fruit-themed community engagement
activities, enhance outreach initiatives, and support Not Far From The
Tree’s volunteer team.

Anticipated Start Date: Mid-June

Location: Toronto, ON (office located at Richmond Street and Spadina Avenue)

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead teams of volunteers at fruit harvesting events, ensuring a fun
and safe experience
• Assist with outreach initiatives with a focus on inclusivity and
reaching out to new Canadians
• Assist with volunteer management activities such as recruitment,
training, recognition and evaluation
• Support staff in the preparation and running of special events

Requirements:

This position is made possible with support from Canada Summer Jobs
and only applicants who meet all of the following criteria will be
considered:
• Between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
• Was registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year
• Intends to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic
year
• Is a student in a secondary, post-secondary, CEGEP, vocational or
technical program
• Is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee
protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee
Protection Act
• Legally entitled to work according to the provincial legislation and
regulations

Qualifications:
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Highly motivated and able to work independently and manage time effectively
• Interest in community building, environmental sustainability and/or
food security
• Experience working in an office environment an asset

Compensation: $11/hour,30 hours/week
