The National Union of the Disability Organizations of Rwanda (NUDOR) is established as a civil society organization since September 2010 by 8 National organizations of Persons with Disabilities. Through its activities, NUDOR aims to ensure that the practical needs of persons with disabilities at personal and institutional levels are fully addressed with an emphasis on empowerment.
NUDOR’s vision is a society where people with disability enjoy the same human rights and opportunities as other citizens. NUDOR’s mission is to serve as a platform for organizations of People with Disabilities, to share their experience, to express their views and to support them in strengthening their capacities and achievements. NUDOR advocates for the rights and needs of people with disabilities.
In partnership with Christian Blind Mission (CBM) and Dialogue Social Enterprise (DSE), the National Union of Disabilities’ Organisations of Rwanda (NUDOR) is planning to establish a Dialogue in the Dark (DiD) Centre in Rwanda. The establishment of DiD Centre in Rwanda will help to raise awareness for abilities and rights of persons with disabilities mainly blind and visually impaired people. The DiD centre will become a model for the inclusion of persons with disabilities into the labor market.
In the Dialogue in the Dark exhibition and workshops, visitors are led in groups by blind guides in total darkness. Roles are reversed: Visitors learn how to interact without sight by using their other senses while blind people are sighted in darkness. The exhibition as well as workshops and trainings programs focus on improving the quality of self awareness, trust, communication and helps to change mindsets/perceptions on disability and diversity, and promotes tolerance, open dialogue, exchange and practices inclusion and creates jobs for the blind or visually impaired persons.
It is from this background that, NUDOR and partners on DiD Project are planning a “Demonstration Event” in October 2014. For a successful demonstration event, NUDOR is looking to hire 6 Dialogue in the Dark Trainers for a period of two weeks from 13 – 25th October 2014. The Dialogue in the Dark trainer should be blind or visually impaired person. Note that NUDOR will rely on 6 Dialogue in the Dark Trainers in the future, when more workshops sold and exhibition opens for long term commitment.
