1. VACANCY: DRD 2013/03 ASSISTANT RESEARCH
SCIENTIST (EXTENSION & TRAINING) – 6 MONTH FTC (2 Positions)
1.1.Main Purpose of the Job
To assist conducting surveys to inform the
organization excellence – involves interviewing entrepreneurs, individuals and
conducting focus group discussions to gather information on the food industry.
The work will also include food processing and standardizing of receipts and
sensory evaluation of products. Assistants will work across the department
including skills transfer activities and exhibitions

•Bsc in Home Economics Education or BEd Home
Economics Extension or Consumer Sciences
•Some knowledge in conducting surveys and

SCIENTIST (MIRCOBIOLOGY AND BIOTECHNOLOGY) – 6 MONTH FTC (1 Positions)
2.1.Main Purpose of the Job
To perform applied research in the area of
microbiology and biotechnology (eg design, development and testing of food
technologies, products, materials, processes and procedures) under direct
supervision or as a team member, conduct field trials, surveys and produces
reports and publications either under direct supervision or as a member of a
research team, actively participate in appropriate technology transfer programs
in line with the Centre’s overall objectives.

3. VACANCY: DRD 2013/05 ASSISTANT RESEARCH
SCIENTIST (FOOD TECHNOLOGY) – 6 MONTH FTC (2 Positions)
3.1.Main Purpose of the Job
To perform product development (including consumer
and industry surveys and liaisons), food processing, and basic laboratory
analysis of food products, raw materials and ingredients, as well as facilitate
relevant workshops

4. VACANCY: DRD 2013/06 ASSISTANT RESEARCH
SCIENTIST (NUTRITION) – 6 MONTH FTC (1 Position)
4.1.Main Purpose of the Job
To participate in nutrition research project teams,
utilize equipment for nutritional analysis of foods, assist in providing
nutrition education and guidance to the general population, as well as
participating in different activities, including, but not limited to
nutritional data analysis and reporting:

5. VACANCY: DRD 2013/07 ASSISTANT RESEARCH
TECHNICIAN (BIOCHEMISTRY) – 6 MONTH FTC (4 Positions)
5.1. Main purpose of the job
To perform routine chemical analysis of food and
related tasks; including sample handling and preparation, maintaining equipment
and the environment of the laboratory in conditions appropriate for analytical
work according to approved and documented procedures
5.2.Key Effectiveness Areas
•Rapid analysis turnaround time
•Accurate record keeping
•High level competency in equipment use and testing
method performance
•Cleanliness of laboratory equipment
5.3.Position Requirements
•Bachelor’s degree in Science, majoring in
Analytical Chemistry or equivalent qualification is required
•Experience in food analysis or similar chemical
analysis (in particular using AAS, GC or HPLC) in a commercial laboratory would
be an added advantage.
6. VACANCY: DRD 2013/08 ASSISTANT RESEARCH
TECHNICIAN (MICROBILOGY/BIOTECHNOLOGY) – 6 MONTH FTC (1 Position)
6.1.Main purpose of the Job
To perform routine microbiological analysis of food
and related tasks: including sample handling and preparation, maintaining
equipment and the environment of the laboratory in conditions appropriate for
analytical work according to approved and documented procedures.
6.2.Key Effectiveness Areas
•Rapid analysis turnaround time
•Accurate record keeping
•High level competency in equipment use and test
method performance
•Cleanliness of laboratory equipment and facilities
6.3.Position Requirements
•Bachelor’s degree in Science, majoring in
Microbiology or Biotechnology or equivalent qualification
•Experience in food analysis or similar
microbiological analysis in a commercial laboratory would be an added advantage
