The NCNM therefore, aims to achieve its mission through setting and monitoring standards and policies of education and practice including professional conduct, and ensuring that they (standards) are implemented.
The NCNM has also a set of objectives and activities it sets to achieve through working with partners and stakeholders.
The NCNM therefore, is interested in employing the services of two local consultants to assist them with finalization of the complaints management procedures, which are part of professional conduct.
The consultants will be provided with existing relevant documents that will facilitate them with preparation of the training workshops and the manual/ guide on nursing and midwifery professional disciplinary management and procedures.
Job Summary
The consultants will be responsible for conducting workshops in managing complaints that include three main activities:
1. Train a pool of nurses and midwives in investigations into allegations of professional misconduct by nurses and midwives and management of outcomes;
2. Conduct a training workshop on professional conduct hearings for nurses and midwives.
3. Compiling a manual/guide for management of complaints in the nursing and midwifery professions
Responsibilities
The consultants will be responsible for carrying out three major activities:
1. 1. Conduct a training workshop on investigation.
• Review documents and materials provided by NCNM and give views where necessary;
• Gather and incorporate relevant information from the staff and members of the Board and/or disciplinary committee
• Prepare an investigations training manual
• Present the training manual to the NCNM for approval
• Compile a first draft document on complaints management (professional misconduct investigations) guide;
• Conduct a three day theoretical and practical training in investigations into allegations of professional misconduct using different approaches;
• Utilise the training outcomes to improve on the drafted guide
1. 2. Conduct a training workshop on professional conduct hearing
• Present a training manual on professional conduct hearings to the NCNM
• Present the training manual to the NCNM for approval
• Compile a first draft document on disciplinary hearings guide;
• Carry out a two day theoretical and practical training on judgment/ disciplinary hearings;
• Utilise the training outcomes to improve on the drafted guide
• Present the draft to the NCNM board members and disciplinary committee for approval
• Compile and submit a complete disciplinary management manual/ guide in two working languages
Job Requirements
• At least a bachelor’s degree in law (barrister), health law and ethics;
• At least a diploma in nursing/midwifery or any other health profession with qualification in law;
• At least two years’ full time experience in conducting legal investigations
