(MSF) is an international medical humanitarian organization created by doctors
and journalists in France in 1971.

Today, MSF provides
independent, impartial assistance in more than 60 countries to people whose
survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe, primarily due to
armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, exclusion from health care, or natural
disasters . MSF provides independent, impartial assistance to those most in need.
MSF also reserves the right to speak out to bring attention to neglected
crises, challenge inadequacies or abuse of the aid system, and to advocate for
improved medical treatments and protocols.
In 1999, MSF received
the Nobel Peace Prize.
MSF program in
Chiradzulu district Malawi is one the most affected countries by the HIV
epidemic in Sub-Saharan Africa with about 1 million people leaving with HIV.
Chiradzulu district is a rural district located in the southern region of
Malawi. MSF has been providing ART to the HIV infected Chiradzulu district
population since 2001, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and
Population (MoH). By the end of May 2011, more than 50 000 people have been
enrolled in the Chiradzulu program. More than 28 000 have initiated ART and 19
000 are still followed on treatment. Among the 22 000 who have not initiated
ART, 9 000 are still followed.
Activities are taking
place at the Chiradzulu District Hospital and 10 Health Centers of the
district. 82% of the patients are currently followed in the HCs. MSF program
supports the following:
 – HIV special clinic (children, 2nd line
regimen patients, Kaposi Sarcoma)
 – Health center medical team
– TB program
– Hospital inpatient
department
– PMTCT
– Laboratory
– Pharmacy
 – Training
– Counseling and
testing
– IEC/ tracing and
support group
 – Six Month Appointment program
