Mandela Scholarship Fund for South African Students in Netherlands

Leiden
University is offering Mandela Scholarship Fund for South African Students in
Netherlands. The scholarship is available for exchange and study abroad
students to pursue their studies for 1 semester.

The
central purpose of The Mandela Rhodes Foundation is to build exceptional
leadership capacity in Africa (whilst also seeking to foster better
reconciliation and entrepreneurship) through its various programmes

and, to
this end, aims to be the leading protagonist in Africa for such endeavours.

Leiden
University is one of Europe’s leading international research universities. It
has seven faculties in the arts, sciences and social sciences, spread over
locations in Leiden and The Hague. The University has over 5,500 staff members
and 25,800 students. The motto of the University is ‘Praesidium Libertatis’ – Bastion
of Freedom.

Applicants
will need to demonstrate your proficiency in English, preferably by means of an
IELTS test though we also accept TOEFL, the Cambridge Certificate of
Proficiency in English (CPE) and the Certificate of Advanced English (CAE).

towards the development of South Africa

to returning to their country after their study period at Leiden
University

should have completed at least two years of university education
– Applicant must have a GPA of at least 3.2 out of 4.0 (or equivalent)
– Applicant’s academic background must be relevant to the courses they are
applying for

Applicant will need to demonstrate your proficiency in English, preferably by
means of an IELTS test though we also accept TOEFL, the Cambridge Certificate
of Proficiency in English (CPE) and the Certificate of Advanced English (CAE).
University need to receive an original report with test results that are no
more than two years old.

How
to Apply:
Applications can be submitted by post or via email. The required
application documents are:

Application
form (in Word-Format) (including a letter of motivation);
Admission
letter for a Study Abroad or Exchange programme at Leiden University;
Two
original letters of recommendation (one of which should be from an academic
staff member);
A
transcript of academic records;
An
up-to-date Curriculum vitae;
Photocopy
of a valid passport and any other passports, if applicant have dual
nationality;
Copy
of the outcome of other scholarship/grant applications;
Proof
that applicant can support themselves financially, since the Mandela
Scholarship Fund is not sufficient to cover all expenses. Proof can be: 1)
a letter that states that they receive a student grant and the exact
amount and duration of this grant 2) a recent bank statement in their own
name that shows that they have sufficient financial means to cover their
expenses in The Netherlands 3) a notary statement declaring
that their parents have sufficient financial means to support their
study in The Netherlands.
