Job Description
POSITION TITLE: Manager, Outreach & Development
REPORTS TO: SOCAN Foundation President LOCATION: Toronto PAYBAND LEVEL: 7
SALARY RANGE: $33,100 – $44,750 LANGUAGE: English (bilingualism an asset)
STATUS: Part-time (20 hours/week) START DATE: July 6, 2015 (flexible) OVERALL
ACCOUNTABILITY: The purpose of this position is to manage overall operations of
the SOCAN Foundation and to raise the profile of the organization and the SOCAN
Foundation Charitable Fund, through outreach activities to all music
communities including SOCAN. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Answer inquiries and solve
problems related to SOCAN Foundation applications, including some communications
with applicants and grantees • Maintain integrity and accuracy of SOCAN
Foundation website, including online application system, board secure pages and
staff secure pages • Liaise with SOCAN Foundation I.T. programmers in creating,
testing and implementing new online features and bug fixes • Prepare minutes
from SOCAN Foundation board and committee meetings • Liaise with SOCAN Finance
department in finalizing forecasts and budgets for presentation to board •
Develop and implement a marketing campaign to increase donations to the
Foundation’s charitable arm, primarily from SOCAN members but not excluding
other foundations, organizations, government and businesses, and other
individuals which support the activities of the Foundation • Develop new programs
or assist in the adjustment of current programs to maximize value to recipients
as well as to SOCAN • Represent the SOCAN Foundation to other organizations and
individuals • Act as a liaison to SOCAN departments–primarily Membership,
Licensing and Communications & Marketing–to ensure that the SOCAN
Foundation’s activities are known and understood by membership representatives
and others who deal with SOCAN members and licensees. • Oversee maintenance of
legal procedures and documents, including the SOCAN Foundation bylaw,
Directors’ Reference Kit, annual reports and annual Corporations Canada filing
• Other duties as required QUALIFICATIONS: • Knowledge of and extensive
contacts in the music industry • Knowledge of SOCAN, performing rights and
copyright • Business acumen • Understanding of applicable protocol and
etiquette when dealing with songwriters, composers, publishers, music users and
other contacts within the industry • Ability to network, connect and bring
people together • Sales and influencing skills • Time-management skills •
Strong focus on problem solving • Negotiating and collaboration skills •
Competent with current consumer communication and entertainment technologies •
Excellent written and/or verbal communication skills (in English but
bilingualism would be an asset) Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word,
PowerPoint & Excel) • Proficient also with web-based online data management
systems • Adept at networking

in the music industry • At least 5 years as a working professional in
Not-For-Profit organizations or relevant experience • Demonstrated
project-management skills including planning, documentation and measurement •
Demonstrated experience in a fund raising capacity • University undergraduate
degree in a relevant field (business, music or arts management)
