Luxy Farm ,Organic Vegetable Farm Intern Jobs in Canada

e who wants to learn how to
run a small business growing certified organic vegetables! Luxy Farm
is seeking 3 full-time interns from April until November 2015, to help
run our 3.5-acre market garden, which feeds an 80-member CSA
(Community Supported Agriculture Program) and 2 farmers’ markets in
Ottawa.

Duties – interns will assist with:
• Seeding
• Transplanting
• Weeding
• Harvesting
• Greenhouse duties
• Cleaning and packing vegetables while ensuring quality is to Luxy
Farm standards
• Record keeping for a certified organic operation
• Customer service

Hours:

Workdays are Monday-Friday, 40-45 hrs/week with opportunity to
volunteer at the weekend farmers’ markets.

Salary:
• The salary will start at $100/week and increase to $200/week
incrementally over the 31-week period.
• There is no fee for accommodations and vegetables from the garden
are included, when they become available late-May.
• Accommodations include 2 shared trailers and access to Wifi, phone,
laundry facilities and indoor washroom.
• One week paid vacation and a bonus will be rewarded upon the
completion of the 31-week contract.
• A chicken coop is available to employees interested in keeping up to
15 layer hens.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Excellent communication skills in English
• A keen interest in sustainable agriculture
• The ability to work alone and with a team
• Flexibility with changing plans
• The ability to work fast and efficiently
• The ability to follow instructions
• The ability to work long hours in the heat, cold, wind and rain;
most tasks are performed outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions.
