MCHIP is the USAID/Bureau for Global Health’s flagship maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH) program. Implemented by Jhpiego in partnership with JSI, Save the Children, MACRO International, PATH, JHU/IIP, Broad Branch Associates, and PSI, MCHIP addresses the barriers to accessing and using focused, evidence-based MNCH interventions from pre-pregnancy to age five. The Program is designed to achieve
impact at scale by maximizing the contributions of each level of the health service–from the community to the national level. MCHIP works with countries based on their individual needs and circumstances and contributes technical leadership at the global and regional levels, as well. JSI leads MCHIP s work in child health, immunization and pediatric HIV/AIDS and brings several decades of experience in health systems strengthening and MNCH to the project team.

In Malawi, MCHIP provides technical assistance to the MOH/EPI unit and partners to strengthen the routine immunization program and in preparation for the introduction and roll-out of new vaccines (i.e. pneumococcal and rotavirus vaccines). In partnership with the MOH and zonal and district Health Management Teams, the project is also providing technical support to regions and districts to provide quality routine immunization services.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The MCHIP Malawi Immunization Technical Advisor will focus on routine immunization and new vaccines introduction activities. The advisor will provide expertise towards the design, implementation, evaluation and documentation of interventions leading to sustainable and high quality routine immunization coverage; in addition to being actively involved in the planning and implementation of new vaccines introduction. This may include providing technical input to improve the planning, management, coordination, training, monitoring, and/or evaluation of routine immunization services. The position is based in Lilongwe, Malawi.

The advisor will report to the MCHIP HQ, and will be called upon to work with technical staff from other international partner organizations at the country, regional and global levels on key policies and program strategies.

Specific activities include:
• In collaboration with MOH/EPI and partners conduct follow up supportive supervision visits and monitoring of PCV13 introduction and provide feedback to subnational level.
• Conduct a needs assessment to determine training needs and prepare training plan of action for training of managers and service providers at all levels based on needs assessment findings.
• Assist MOH/EPI and partners with the adaptation of the Mid-level Manager training modules, immunization field guide and immunization in-practice (IIP) training modules.
• Facilitate MLM and IIP trainings targeting managers and service providers.
• Conduct regular supportive supervision and on-job training in the priority regions and districts and provide feedback.
• Work with MOH/EPI in preparing a detailed plan of action for the introduction of the rotavirus vaccine.
• Participate in the PCV13 post introduction evaluation (PIE).
• Facilitate the planning and implementation of nationwide DQS and provide written feedback to subnational level
• Support MOH/EPI in improving vaccines and other EPI logistics stock management.
• Document lessons learned and submit monthly reports to MCHIP and USAID Malawi.
• Perform other activities as need arises and/or requested by MCHIP and MOH/EPI.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Master’s degree in public health with a minimum of three years experience or 1st level degree in public health with 10 years experience.
• A minimum of three years experience in immunization is required.

Salary commensurate with experience.
