Visions in Action requires an engineer familiar with the rapid and low-cost techniques of building roads and bridges in rural Africa. Due to the emerging refugee crisis involving large numbers of Ivorian refugees fleeing to Eastern Liberia, there is an urgent need to rehabilitate key rural roads in Nimba, Grand Gedeh and River Gee counties to allow humanitarian organizations to reach the refugee population.
Requires installing culverts, wood bridges and labor intensive road repair on small rural roads before the height of the rainy season in July. Will hire Liberians and Ivorian refugees to perform the work through food for work and cash for work schemes. Will design road and bridge renovations, procure material, and oversee a large emergency work force.
Must have a degree or equivalent experience in civil engineering, road and bridge construction. Management experience on construction programs required. Experience in humanitarian emergencies preferred. Must be able to work in a remote rural areas intensively with minimal support, and set up a new field office in Eastern Liberia.
