Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board Reporting to the Supervisor of Data Services, the Junior Web Developer will assist in maintaining the Board’s server environment.

1. Junior Web Developer
Full-time Position
Effective Immediately

Duties will include, but are not limited to the following:
• Assist in maintaining the Board’s MS SQL server environment, including
installations, upgrades, troubleshooting, performance tuning and designing
and performing backups and recovery;
• Establish/maintain Internet and Intranet based resources including, but not
restricted to, coding (html, shtml, php, perl, cgi, css, java), image
manipulations, custom scripting and integration with ODBC or equivalent
databases;
• Work with Manager of Communications and Community Relations to
establish Board web and intranet requirements, make recommendations,
provide vendor feedback and develop web/database solutions to streamline
business processes, increase efficiencies and capture data as requested;
• Ensure all web/database developments are tested on both the server and
workstation before deployment;
• Provide peer and end user support for school level Internet and Intranet
resources;
• Ensure integrity, currency and compliance with corporate standards for data;
• Assist in the coordination and integration of data across multiple system
platforms. Work with management and users to ensure specifications,
requirements and timelines are met;
• Effectively communicate problems to technical services and other internal
organizations;
• Provide occasional support for the application and support of the Board
Student Management System, Portal, Data Warehouse and BI Tools;
• Remain current in the use of web utilities;
• Assist in the design, coding, and testing of technical solutions, as well as the
documentation and communication of project updates;
• Ability to conceptualize design solutions, understand project and
development plans, clearly articulate roles, project goals, and timelines;
• Possess knowledge of various database access methods;
• Exhibit proficiency in HTML and one scripting language;
• Understand and use good judgment in communicating data expectations to
both internal and external personnel.
• Excellent time management skills along with the ability to multitask in tight
timelines;
• Develop and document web site requirements, architecture, information for
inclusion, design, appearance, layout and flow of the website;
• Utilize critical thinking to create and optimize content for web sites using a
variety of graphics, database animation and other software; and
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Data
Services.

Candidates must possess:
• Successful completion of a two (2) year community college diploma program
in computer software technology, computer science, or equivalent;
• Preference for two (2) years of related work experience. Preference given to
candidates with experience establishing/maintaining Internet and Intranet
based resources including, but not restricted to, coding (html, shtml, php,
perl, cgi, css, etc.), java, iNet, image manipulations, custom scripting and
integration with ODBC or equivalent databases;
• Working knowledge in the application and support of Microsoft Internet
Explorer, the First Class Communication System, and the Microsoft Office
Suite;
• Working knowledge of computer architecture and Windows XP, Windows 7,
Server 2003, 2008 and Active Directory;
• Experience with relational and/or ODBC compliant databases such as MS
SQL, Oracle or equivalent;
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to function effectively with
administrators, school and departmental staff and outside agencies;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical writing
skills, analytical and problem solving skills, with attention to detail. Strong
commitment to the use of technology in education;
• Ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple assignments/projects with
similar deadlines;
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment, as well as
collaborate on ideas and projects;
• Self-motivated learner with the ability to learn emerging technologies,
software and trends;
• Must have reliable transportation to travel to various sites within the Board;
and
• Must be flexible and determined to resolve issues with the ability to
troubleshoot, answer questions and provide training.

2. REGISTERED EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATORS
Effective: September 1, 2011
Reporting to the principal, the registered early childhood educator will partner with
the classroom teacher to plan and implement a full day early learning program
within a classroom setting and provide supervision and age appropriate
programming for groups of students as part of the extended day program as
required.
The ECE will collaborate in the design of programs and environments which will
enhance children’s cognitive, physical, social, emotional and spiritual
development.

Qualifications:
• Two (2) year community college Early Childhood Education Diploma;
• Proof of registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators;
• Two (2) years of experience in a childcare or education setting;
• Knowledge of Ministry of Education full day early learning kindergarten
program;
• Experience planning and implementing age appropriate programs; and
• Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and move/carry equipment for
program; and must be able to physically assist children as required (i.e. lift up
to 50 lbs).

Skills:
• Knowledge of related legislation;
• Ability to communicate in a professional manner with children, parents, staff
and the general public;
• Understanding of privacy legislation and commitment to confidentiality;
• Strong organization and time management skills; and
• Good computer skills.

Assets:
• Basic understanding of food handling procedures; and
• French language skills would be an asset.

Tentative Schedule:
Core – Six (6) hours/day
Extended Day (before and/or after school) to be determined*
