Announcement/ USAID’s MCSP Malaria Study Coordinator
The
Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP) is a global, USAID Cooperative
Agreement operating in 24high priority countries to introduce and support
high-impact health interventions with the ultimate goal of ending preventable
child and maternal deaths within a generation. The Program is focused on
ensuring that all women, newborns, and children most in need have equitable
access to quality health care services to save lives. USAID’s MCSP supports
programming in maternal, newborn and child health, immunization, family
planning and reproductive health, nutrition, health systems strengthening,
water/sanitation/hygiene, malaria, prevention of mother-to-child transmission
of HIV, and pediatric HIV care and treatment. USAID’s MCSP engages governments,
policymakers, private sector leaders, health care providers, civil society,
faith-based organizations, and communities in adopting and accelerating proven
approaches to address the major causes of maternal, newborn and child mortality
such as postpartum hemorrhage, birth asphyxia, and diarrhea, respectively, and
improve the quality of health services, from household to hospital.
USAID’s
Maternal and Child Survival Program in Rwanda is hiring a Malaria Study
coordinator who will serve to aid in the coordination, management, and conduct
of planned malaria studies that include the Intermittent Screening and
Treatment of Malaria in Pregnancy and any other study that the supervisor will
ask the coordinator to support. . The staff will be under supervision of the
Maternal and Child Survival Program
Malaria Team Lead. The Intermittent Screening of Malaria in Pregnancy is a
study which is conducted by the MCSP in Collaboration with Malaria and Other
Parasitic Diseases Division /Rwanda Biomedical Center which aims at evaluating
if the addition of intermittent screening and treatment of malaria in pregnant
women (ISTp) who receive routine antenatal care (ANC) in health facilities in
high malaria transmission areas in Rwanda. Will reduce malaria prevalence among
pregnant women when compared to routine antenatal cares services alone.The
Malaria Study Coordinator will be based in, Rwanda with many field travels to
supervise the study sites.
Responsibilities:
• Monitors the progress of research activities; develops and maintains records
of research activities, and prepares periodic and ad hoc reports, as required
by investigators, administrators, funding agencies, and/or regulatory bodies

Oversee subject enrollment to ensure that informed consent is properly obtained
and documented

Facilitate information exchange among study sites, Mal&OPD and MCSP
investigators, research subjects or other support system

Manage study paperwork, electronic correspondence, and data.

Ensure subject safety and provide information regarding adverse events and any
pertinent information to subjects and investigators in a prompt manner

Supervises and coordinates the provision of support services to study sites and
study teams

Preparing and submitting monthly, quarterly, and annual reports;

Compliance with all Rwanda Ethics Committee and other institutional rules and
regulations related to research involving human subjects and human subject
derived information
and materials

Ensure that study data are collected and kept according the protocol and human
research subject principles

Ensures the smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of research and data
collection activities; acts as the primary administrative point of contact for
internal research staff

Coordinates the day-to-day activities of any study staff specifically engaged
in the carrying out of research protocol, as appropriate to the position

Prepare for or participate in quality assurance audits conducted by RNEC or
other regulatory agencies,

Prepare and coordinate shipment of study blood sample Knowledge, Skills and
Abilities:

Being Rwandan by nationality

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Public Health or related health field

5+ years’ experience in Coordinating/ supervising Clinical research

Certificate in Good Clinical Practice, Good Laboratory Practice, and Human
Research Subject Principles

Proven experience in Prevention and Case management of Malaria at Health
facility level

Ability to Build and maintain effective relationships, with study teams,
colleagues, members and external partners and supporters

Familiarity with Rwanda’s health settings

Excellent writing and communications skills, including demonstrated technical
writing skills for publication

Ability to work effectively with diverse international teams

Experience working in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short
deadlines, and intense pressure to perform

Strong technical skills, including ability to process and analyze data using
one or more statistical software packages, including at least two of the
following: SPSS, Epi-Info, Stata, MS Access

Proficiency in word processing and Microsoft Office

Strong oral and written communication and presentations skills in English;
working knowledge of French and Kinyarwanda is preferred

Approachable, good listener, easy to talk to

Strong skills in word processing and Excel spread sheets;

Excellent computer, writing, analytical, communication, and organization skills

Ability to travel up to 80% time
