Program Description
The goal of the GBV Program in Liberia is to enhance and encourage the ability of the Ministry of Gender and Development and local community structures to prevent and respond to GBV, put GBV issues on the national agenda, and create social change toward safe communities, social justice and equal rights for women and girls in partnership with men and boys. Currently, GBV staff provide case management services for survivors in Lofa, Montserrado, and Nimba counties and work to enhance local capacity to prevent and respond to GBV through awareness-raising, training, and coordination with all actors in close collaboration with the Ministry of Gender. With the recent influx of Ivorian citizens into bordering towns and villages in Nimba, Maryland and Grand Gedeh Counties, the IRC program in collaboration with the UNHCR, LRRRC and other partners provides emergency services to Ivorian women and girls in the camps and host communities in Grand Gedeh and Nimba Counties.

Scope of Work
This is an opportunity for a highly motivated individual to drive forward IRC’s program focusing on community mobilization and raising awareness of gender and gender based violence. Work will be done to empower community groups (men, women, youth) to address issues of GBV within their own communities.

Responsibilities

Awareness
• Create awareness on various GBV topics, focusing particularly on men and boys
• Ensure that information, education, and communications materials are developed in both English and French and posted in key locations including clinics, schools, community centers, public buildings, etc.
• Explain the key GBV messages for the understanding of the local community members.

Community Mobilization
• Mobilize community groups within the refugee population to engage as community mobilizers on gender and GBV issues
• Conduct training with support from GBV Team Leader on gender and GBV issues with community groups and develop action plan for group activities

Coordination
• Represent the GBV sector in location of assignment and play active role in improving coordination of GBV actors

Reporting
• Provide weekly reports to the Team Leader in a timely manner
• Provide weekly plans to the Team Leader in a timely manner

Requirements
• Minimum of High school graduate( High school Diploma)
• 2 years or more experience in working with local community women groups.
• Training and experience in providing basic counseling
• Good interpersonal relationship.
• Experience in community mobilization and education.
• Good oral and written communication skills in English.
• Ability to live and work in remote areas.
• Fluency in French and Gio is mandatory
