Importance of Immunization

Immunization is an essential component of primary health care and child
survival activities throughout the world. Since the establishment of the World
Health Organisation, Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) in 1974, the
estimated

incident of childhood vaccine, preventable diseases has declined
significantly. Today, immunization against the six (6) diseases targeted by EPI
Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, Measles and tuberculosis prevent approximately
two (2) in two million childhood death per year. Nevertheless, many women and
children in the developing world remain unimmunized.

Immunization is one of the most effective, fastest and efficient public
health interventions as it is estimated to save at least 3 million lines from
vaccine preventable diseases.
