The
Nature Interpreter is responsible for delivering curriculum connected outdoor
education workshops to students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 who visit the
Humber Arboretum’s Centre for U
Nature Interpreter is responsible for delivering curriculum connected outdoor
education workshops to students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 who visit the
Humber Arboretum’s Centre for U
rban Ecology. In addition, the incumbent will
assist with the planning and facilitation of ecologically focused community
events held in the evenings and on weekends. The Nature Interpreter is required
to organize, prepare and clean up before and after the workshops and special
events as required.
This
part-time position requires the incumbent to be available to work flexible
hours including daytime, evenings and weekends. The successful candidate will
also be assigned hours to assist the Coordinator for the Centre for Urban
Ecology with office duties such as responding to emails, booking groups,
answering phones, creating flyers and helping to promote the Humber Arboretum
and Centre for Urban Ecology

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary
education in Outdoor Education, Ecology, or Environmental Education.
Equivalent experience will be considered in the absence of post-secondary
education. - Experience
in the planning and implementation of curriculum connected ecologically
focused outdoor education workshops. - Ability
to identify common flora and fauna of Southern Ontario (identification
will be a part of the interview process) - Understanding
of the inner-connectedness of ecosystems and the ability to present these
relationships to students ranging from kindergarten to Grade 12 using age
appropriate terminology. - Fun
loving personality with a strong commitment to professionalism and
providing excellent customer service. - Ability
to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with
little or no direct supervision. - Hold
a current certificate in First Aid, and CPR Level C - Excellent
communication and interpersonal skills plus demonstrated experience - Computer
skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. - Candidates
Bilingual in English and French will be given special consideration.
