HIV/AIDS

HIV/AIDS is a chronic
disease that affects all ages. It weaken the immune system and the body cannot
resist infection or disease. This will make the patient to be affected with so
many types of diseases.
Cause of HIV/AIDS
It is caused by a
virus microscopic in nature.

Modes of Transmission
1.     
Sexual intercourse
2.     
Close contact with blood of an infected person.
3.     
Blood transfusion using unscreened blood.
4.     
Sharing of needles and other sharp objects like razor blade, scissors,
clipper and shaving stick.
5.     
Through breast feeding and from mother to child during labour/delivery
6.     
Unsterilized instruments.
Signs and Symptoms of HIV/AIDS
1.     
Fever
2.     
Headache
3.     
Tiredness
4.     
Diarrhoea lasting more than a month
5.     
Cough lasting more than a month
6.     
Weight loss.

Prevention and Control Measures of HIV/AIDS
·        
Abstinence from sex till marriage
·        
Faithfulness to one’s partner 
·        
Consistent use of condoms
·        
Prevention of mother to child transmission
·        
Early diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases
·        
Avoid sex when partner has an open sore or STIs (sexually transmitted
infections)
·        
Know your HIV status
·        
Sterilization of instruments before and after use.
·        
Avoid multiple sex partners
·        
Used needles and syringes should be properly disposed and do not recap
needles and syringes.
