Harmful Delivery Practices

They
are practices that are carried out in ignorance that affect the health of the
woman in the society.
Some
of these practices endanger the life of the woman. Some of these practices
include:

1.)       Administration of certain herbs into the
vaginal.

2.)       Cutting of any part of the vaginal during
delivery.
3.)       Bathing with extremely hot water.
4.)       Delivery of women on a dirty surface.
5.)       Using of dirty hands to deliver a woman.
6.)       Taking of hot substances like kuwu after
birth.
7.)       Inability to guard the cervix during
delivery.
8.)       Leaving a pregnant woman to stay for days
until she confesses.
9.)       Forbidding pregnant women from eating
certain food.
10.)     Circumcision during pregnancy and child
birth.
11.)     Starving of women during labour.
Consequences of Harmful
Practices Delivery are:
1.)       Obstructed labour.
2.)       Anaemia.
3.)       Injuries burns exhausted in labour due to
much exercise.
4.)       Under weight low birth weight.
5.)       Team infection.
Role of Health
Workers on the Practices of Harmful Delivery Practices
1.)       Create awareness to the community.
2.)       Tell them the effect of those practices e.g. infection,
bleeding, injuries and probably death.
3.)       Health educates them on what all these things can cause to the
life of the woman.
4.)       Discouraging the habit of those harmful
practices.
