 The GSMA
represents the interests of the worldwide mobile operator community. Spanning
219 countries, the GSMA unites nearly 800 of the world’s mobile operators as
its members, as well as linking them with more than 200 companies in the
broader mobile ecosystem (including; handset makers, software companies,
equipment providers, Internet companies, and media and entertainment
organizations). The GSMA is focused on innovating, incubating and creating new
opportunities for its membership, all with the end goal of driving the growth
of the mobile communications sector and the role of operators within it.
In addition, we work with Governments, regulators
and NGO’s to develop the social and economic value of mobile on a country,
region and global basis. Finally we operate and produce the world leading
Mobile World Congress and its sister events. The GSMA is governed by a 25
member board, comprising CEO level representatives from the world’s leading
mobile operators, among them AT&T, Bharti Airtel, China Mobile, NTTDoCoMo,
Orange, Telefonica, Telecom Italia-TIM, Deutsche Telecom and the Vodafone Group.

GSMA – The Role
Reporting to the Head of Corporate Strategy and
within a highly focused and effective team, your role will be to lead Strategic
Initiatives within the GSMA. These initiatives will often involve
cross-functional teams and may focus on either industry or organisational
strategy.
Being highly strategic and outcomes focused, your
key activities will be to:
  • Lead cross-functional strategic initiatives in
    order to understand industry opportunities and risks, and develop industry
    actions plans.
  • Alternatively, the strategic initiatives may
    focus on strategic change within the GSMA, and involve shaping the
    organisation to better deliver strategic initiatives.
  • Incubate strategic actions to prove their
    value and potential of success and then define full-blown programmes of
    work.
  • Obtain input and buy-in to strategic initiatives
    from key stakeholders such as mobile operators, adjacent industry
    stakeholders and within the GSMA.
Criteria
Criteria for Selection 
This is a senior role and requires an individual
with a strategic mind, excellent industry knowledge and the ability to develop
positive relationships in sometimes difficult situations.
In particular:
  • Strategic – a strategic understanding of the
    mobile industry and areas of opportunity or concern for mobile operators.
  • Business oriented – an innovative mind and able
    to translate ideas in to viable business opportunities
  • Analytical – strong analytical skills and able
    to use sound methodologies to analyse industry forecasts and ascertain the
    most strategic elements of a complex industry.
  • Organisational management – a background in
    organisation optimisation, able to make recommendations on how best to
    structure key activities and functions.
  • Relationship focused – a relationship builder,
    able to liaise with both external and internal GSMA to obtain buy-in to
    strategies and change.
  • Communications – able to effectively
    communicate the areas of opportunity or concern, and obtain buy-in to
    these ideas.
  • Collaborative – able to effectively work with
    stakeholders across the industry and the GSMA to produce the best outcomes.
  • International – experience in working in an
    international environment and with geographically dispersed teams.
    Willingness to travel on an international basis.
