Organization:
Green Fire Farm http://www.greenfirefarm.ca
Location:
Cowichan Valley, Vancouver Island, British Columbia
Green Fire Farm is a
40-acre mixed vegetable an
d small livestock farm with ample woodland and
riparian areas near the Cowichan River. Our focus is on cultivating a diversity
of great tasting, seasonal vegetables and on raising happy, healthy pigs and
heritage laying hens.
We are looking for a
couple or a couple of friends who want to live on-farm and cultivate that part
of yourself that enjoys outdoor work, and taste food you’ve had a hand in
growing. We would provide room in our home or in a comfortable trailer, farm
fresh food, and a small stipend depending on your experience and time
commitment to the farm work.
The work on the farm
would include feeding and caring for pasture-raised pigs and laying hens, and
planting, harvesting, maintaining, washing and packing vegetables. The farm
work schedule would be part-time, 15-20 hours a week depending on your
interests and skills. We are located near a great swimming hole and a diversity
of trails and outdoor recreational opportunities in the valley, and can also
offer other on-farm learning opportunities if you are ready to immerse yourself
in agroecology.
Timing is everything
on a farm, so preference for filling these positions will be given to folks who
can be on the farm steadily from roughly the June solstice to September
equinox.
Please send a
statement of interest, your hoped for start and stop dates, a list of previous
work/volunteer experience, and three references with contact information to:
