iety (GVBTWS) is seeking a marketing
and communications coordinator that will develop and implement a solid
marketing strategy which will increase the overall reach of the organizations
message and awareness of our annual event and the urban bike skills course.
He/she will use traditional and digital media outlets to promote GVBTWS
campaigns, engage the public and increase online presence. The marketing and
communications coordinator will directly contribute to increasing GVBTWS
capacity to promote the bicycle as a viable form of transportation by
increasing public awareness of the organization, encouraging registration in
upcoming urban bike skills courses or workshops and communicating progress on
specific campaigns.

What
we need you to do:
  • Develop
    a marketing and communications strategy to support the organizations
    events, activities and urban bike skills courses.
  • Evaluate
    current channels and use, establish targets to increase online presence,
    audience interactivity and bike skills registration levels.
  • Update
    current outreach materials, marketing messages and communications
    platforms/operations where necessary
  • Manage
    marketing or communications campaigns and day-to-day activities including:
    • Source
      free/affordable, effective traditional media opportunities, including
      sponsorships or partnerships.
    • Find
      unique, effective ways to keep our information current to those without
      social media.
    • Post
      regular updates to GVBTWS social media channels including, news articles,
      blog posts, videos, cartoons, press releases, fundraising appeals and any
      other applicable items
      • Use
        this content for regular newsletters to mailing list
    • Become
      an advocate for the Greater Victoria Bike to Work Society in Social Media
      spaces, engaging in dialogues and respond to users in a “Social” way
    • Create
      open stream for cross-promotion with event sponsors and supporters
    • Expand
      community outreach efforts
  • Source
    advertising and interviewing opportunities: special in-person, phone or TV
    interviews, expose opportunities etc
  • Monitor
    trends in Marketing/Communications tools, applications, channels, design
    and strategy
  • Monitor
    effective benchmarks (best practices) for measuring the impact of
    Marketing/Communications campaigns. Analyze, review, and report on
    effectiveness of campaigns in an effort to maximize results.
Canada
Summer Jobs Requirements:
(a)
is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
(b)
was registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year;
(c)
intends to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year;
(d)
is a student in a secondary, post-secondary, CEGEP (Quebec only), vocational or
technical program;
(e)
is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection
has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act* and;
(f)
is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial
legislation and regulations
The
basic’s (required):
  • Maintains
    in-depth knowledge and understanding of Media platforms, their respective
    participants (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr…) and how each platform
    can be deployed in different scenarios
  • Possesses
    knowledge and experience in traditional marketing. Marketing degree is
    welcomed but not required with relevant work experience
  • Experience
    using Adobe Creative Cloud to create appropriate digital and print
    materials
  • Proficient
    in content marketing theory and application. Experience sourcing and
    managing content development and publishing. Strong writing and editing
    skills with keen attention to detail
  • Committed
    cyclist with motivation to encourage more people to use a bicycle as main
    mode of transportation
  • Strong
    intrinsic motivation, able to work well independently and as part of a
    team
  • Enthusiastic,
    organized and creative

in its 22nd year, the Greater Victoria Bike to Work Week provides individuals
the opportunity to experience cycling in a safe, fun way. Participants learn
cycling is an enjoyable and feasible option for everyday transportation,
particularly for commuting to work.
