Graduate School of East Asian Studies (GEAS) has three basic goals first, GEAS
combines area studies research on East Asia with thorough,
discipline-based methodological training and strong language and cultural
competence. Its training program is interdisciplinary with special
emphasis on historically and culturally informed social science inquiry.

pursue Doctoral degree programme. - Study
Subject: GEAS offers a social
science-based, structured 3-year PhD programme with a regional focus on
East Asia (China, Japan, and Korea). Doctoral dissertations at GEAS are
expected to analyze the institutional environment of social, political,
cultural and economic actors in the East Asian region. - Scholarship Award:
A limited number of students researching Korea will be recommended after a
positive selection to receive scholarships by Korean research foundations. - Nationality:
Scholarships are available to
International students. - Number
of Scholarships: Up to 10
candidates will be accepted. Up to two positions for international
candidates are funded by GSSP, the Graduate School Scholarship Programme
of German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). - Scholarship can
be taken in Germany

at the application portal. Note that the candidates selected for a nomination
for DAAD have to submit a subsequent application to the funding organization
for a final decision. We would like to ask applicants who apply for CSC at
Beijing Liaison Office to also submit their application to the GEAS portal as
well.

brief outline of the prospective dissertation topic (maximum 6 pages) - a
schedule for the dissertation - and
