Free The
Children

seeks an experienced candidate to fulfil the role of Director, Global Learning
Centre.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to
be part of a pivotal moment in the organization’s history, helping to build
what will be its new global headquarters, and an innovative facility which will
help it to better serve young people around the world. The incumbent will work
with construction and design partners to manage all aspects of the project,
including construction, space planning, design, partner engagement, and
ultimately the move into the space. This is a contract position ending in October
2017, with possibility of extension due to project demands

The position is
based out of Free The Children’s International office in Toronto (233 Carlton
Street. There is a three (3) month probationary period, upon reaching the three
(3) month period, all staff members are offered a health plan including dental
and Employee Assistant Program.

Responsibilities:

Design
Development

  • Work
    closely with external designers and Free The Children’s Executive team to
    bring to life a space that will meet the organization’s vision and
    strategic goals
  • Meet
    regularly with designer on all aspects of interior planning and design,
    including space planning, technology integration, interior design and
    furniture selection
  • Review
    and provide feedback on design proposals with Executive team
  • Work
    closely with external designer to develop, forecast and track project
    schedule and budget

Construction
Period:

  • Join
    external construction partners as Free The Children’s representative on
    the construction team
  • Regularly
    meet with partners to ensure construction is on track
  • Review
    and provide feedback on decision points with Executive team
  • Work
    closely with external contractors to monitor project schedule and budget,
    forecasting changing budget needs
  • Review
    and provide feedback on all drawings with Executive team
  • Approve
    invoices and payments within the project budget

Business
Development and Partner Engagement

  • Work
    with Free The Children’s Executive team and key project partners to
    identify and engage new potential funders/supporters of the project
  • Develop
    a strategy to honour funders and partners within the project design
  • Manage
    key relationships with funders and partners
  • Write
    reports on the project for management and for funders
  • Communicate
    with funders as outlined in funding agreements
  • As
    required, plan partner events including official ribbon cutting ceremony
    in summer 2017

Employee
Engagement

  • Work
    with the Executive Office to engage Free The Children’s employees
    throughout the design and construction process
  • Lead
    meetings with key Directors to ensure the space will meet the operational
    needs of each department
  • Hold
    focus groups / decision polls as appropriate to involve Free The Children
    staff in the process
  • Regularly
    provide updates to staff through internal intranet site, staff meetings
    and other internal communications vehicles

Project Set
Up and Office Relocation

  • Along
    with project partners, the Executive team and internal facilities team,
    oversee the move of Free The Children’s headquarters to the new space
  • Work
    with designer to develop a timeline for vendors to ensure deadlines for
    project finalization are met
  • Regularly
    visit the site to ensure finished product reflects the vision, acting as
    final quality control
  • Liaise
    with key internal stakeholders to ensure needs are met and that impact on
    productivity is minimized

    Closely with: Co-Founders, Chief of Staff, Executive Office team

Additional duties
and responsibilities may be added or modified as required throughout the course
of employment.

Qualifications:

Competencies:

  • Demonstrated
    ability to translate big picture vision and strategy into detailed project
    and program plans
  • Strong
    project management skills to coordinate and deliver initiatives in a
    dynamic environment amid conflicting and changing client needs, time
    constraints, strict deadlines and process changes
  • Experience
    managing construction projects at both a macro and micro level
  • Experience
    managing high-level/capital projects for Executives a strong asset
  • Demonstrated
    exceptional capability of working collaboratively and effectively within a
    cross functional team
  • Strong
    people management skills, with the ability to delegate and manage projects
    with the support of a variety of internal teams
  • Strong
    negotiation and conflict resolution skills

General Skills and
Qualifications:

  • University
    degree and/or 5-7 years equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Excellent
    judgment and problem solving skills with great attention to detail
  • Organized
    and proactive with a strong ability to multitask and remain flexible in a
    dynamic environment
  • Excellent
    relationship building skills, including the ability to work
    collaboratively in a team environment
  • Positive,
    energetic, enthusiastic with a strong work ethic
  • Valid G
    class driver’s license is an asset
