Description:
FBC
is looking for a confident, creative, enterprising, and highly talented
individual to be our Organic Agriculture Coordinator. The ideal candidate will
have a minimum of 3 years experience in organic growing systems, with some
experience with orchards, and a Permaculture Design Certificate (or a
willingness to obtain one). They are dynamic self-starters with excellent
communication skills who enjoys collaborative projects and an intimate team
environment.
Reporting
to the Executive Director, the Organic Agriculture Coordinator works to expand
existing food production within our demonstration property and develop and
manage the NB Permaculture Hub – to increase interest in and application of
permaculture practices and permaculture sites in the province of New Brunswick.
Working in conjunction with other FBC staff, the Organic Agriculture
Coordinator is responsible for: on-site organic food production, developing the
NB Permaculture Hub, public outreach, collaboration with other stakeholders and
organizations, fund acquisition, and fund management. Additionally, the Organic
Agriculture Coordinator will assist FBC staff with event planning and public
outreach initiatives as necessary.
Within
this contract period, your responsibilities will be as follows:
On-site
Organic Agriculture:
  • Expand
    existing food production on site to increase yield capacity
  • Develop
    food storage and preservation best practices
  • Management
    of entire growing system from seed starting to seed saving
  • Maintenance
    and acquisition of appropriate farm equipment
  • Maintain
    all aspects of organic certification
Development
of the NB Permaculture Hub:
  • Partnering
    with individuals and organizations practicing and promoting permaculture
    to provide information on permaculture design principles and technologies,
    link people with demonstrations of permaculture in action and provide
    advice on adopting sustainable land management practices at a variety of
    scales
  • Build
    a network of NGOs, businesses, municipalities, and citizens interested in
    permaculture practices
  • Provide
    education through a variety of channels including workshops, seminars,
    training courses, a website, and project site demonstration tours
  • Evaluate
    the project’s success based on a recorded increase in public engagement
    through information requests, workshop attendance, website visits, and
    site tours and increases in certified permaculture designers and
    partnership within the group
Public
Outreach:
  • Developing,
    planning, and facilitating workshops relevant to organic agriculture and
    permaculture
  • Work
    in conjunction with the Education Coordinator to provide content expertise
    relating to organic agriculture for public/private schools, life-long
    learning, and site related materials (assisting with delivery when
    appropriate)
  • Create
    and promote food growing resources and guidelines for the public
  • Participate
    in relevant meetings/conferences with the public, other conservation
    organizations, academics, or government officials
Fund
Seeking/ Management:
  • Investigate
    and pursue funding which directly relates to practicing and promoting
    organic agriculture on and off site
  • Investigate
    and pursue funding which supports educational activities relating to organic
    agriculture on and off site
  • Manage
    acquired funding and fulfill all related obligations in conjunction with
    the Executive Director
Other:
  • Assist
    with general operation of FBC demonstration/education site
  • Assist
    other staff during major organizational events
  • Other
    tasking as assigned by the Executive Director
Skills
and Experience:
  • Minimum
    3 years experience in organic growing systems required
  • Orchard
    experience is an asset (personal or commercial)
  • Permaculture
    Design Certification is an asset, willingness to obtain the training is
    mandatory
  • Experience
    in food storage (preserving, drying, cold storage, etc.) is an asset
  • Strong
    computer skills required (including Microsoft Office Suite, website design
    and maintenance, social media, etc.)
  • Experience
    with events coordination is preferred
  • Bilingual
    (French and English) is preferred, proficiency in Spanish is an asset
  • Relationship
    builder
  • Strong
    time and project management skills
  • Strong
    communication skills – verbal and written
  • Desire
    to bring awareness of environmental issues to community
  • Detail-oriented
  • Enterprising
    self-starter
  • Ability
    to work individually and collaboratively with others to achieve common
    goals

  • Must
    be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Eligibility
    for YEF is an asset, but not required
