The Environmental Law Centre, an Edmonton-based charity, is a leader in environmental law and policy in Alberta. The Centre’s activities focus on public legal education, information, research and law reform, but do not include litigation and client representation. The Centre seeks a creative, self-motivated lawyer with a passion for environmental law and the public interest to fill a full-time position as Staff Counsel.
Staff Counsel are involved primarily in delivery of the Centre’s public programs, including information services, community presentations, environmental law research and writing, and participation in law reform activities. Experience in administrative and regulatory law will be an asset for these positions. Salary will be competitive within the charitable sector and a full benefits package is included.
Applicants must meet the following qualifications:
• Membership or eligibility for membership in the Law Society of Alberta;
• Practical experience in environmental law and issues, preferably in Alberta;
• Legal practice experience;
• Strong research, writing, presentation and public speaking skills;
• Public interest orientation;
• Self-motivated and self-directed;
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
• Ability to work with a diverse range of stakeholders.
