Early-Stage Research Fellowships for International Applicants at University of Bologna in Italy

Each year, Institute of Advanced Studies at
University of Bologna offers Early-Stage research fellowships
for young foreign researchers. For the year 2014, two fellowships are
awarded starting from January to December 2014. Each fellow will
receive an annual grant worth about €15,600. To be eligible for these
fellowships, applicant must be 36 years of age or younger and be in
possession of a PhD degree or equivalent qualification certified by a
university on the expiration date of this announcement. Applications will close
on July 20, 2013.
Study Subject (s): Fellowship is awarded to study any subject available at the
University of Bologna.
Course Level: Each Fellowship will be awarded to an early-career
researcher in order to support the research activities of the University of
Bologna and promote their international value.

-Can be citizens of any nation except Italy and may not be resident in Italy

Scholarship Open for International Students: Citizens of any nation except Italy can apply for this fellowship.
Scholarship Description: In accordance with its institutional aims, the ISA – Institute of
Advanced Studies – intends to allocate two annual scholarships for young
foreign researchers (Early-Stage Research Fellowships) for the year 2014.
 Each Fellowship will be awarded to an early-career researcher in order to
support the research activities of the University of Bologna and promote their
international value.

Duration of award (s): Each Fellow will receive an annual grant and will carry out his/her
activity from January to December 2014.
What does it cover? The annual scholarship granted to a Fellow will amount to €15,600 gross,
i.e. before tax and social security contributions, which are to be paid by the
recipient and the institution. The grant will be paid in installments every two
months. ISA offers to Fellows:
-a studio-apartment in the Residence Terzo Millennio Bologna, via Miliani 7/2.
The residence is in the Borgo Panigale district, well-connected by public
transport to the city center and to the University area (NOTE – the residence
does not host minors)
-a common room equipped for study and reading located at Palazzo Paleotti, via
Zamboni 25, which is in the heart of the University area
-Fellows who carry out their activities on a University Campus in one of the
surrounding areas (Cesena, Forlì, Ravenna, Rimini), and who choose not to live
in the accommodation in Bologna, will receive a monthly integration of € 200 in
partial repayment of accommodation costs.
Selection Criteria: The selection procedure will be based on publications, educational and
professional qualifications and certificates of merit as well as the scientific
project that the candidate proposes to carry out at the University of Bologna.
Notification: The ISA Council of Resident Fellows will prepare a merit list of
candidates to be published on the Institute website by October 15, 2013. The
selection results will be also communicated to the winners.

must be received by the ISA no later than July 20, 2013, and should be sent by

application form is available on the Institute website. The application must be
accompanied by the following documents:
– curriculum vitae
-list of publications
-at least one letter of reference from a senior academic with knowledge of the
candidate and his/her curriculum vitae
– a letter of invitation and written reference from the supervisor of the
research project proposed by the candidate at the University of Bologna.
