Drakkar Ltd is a small Rwandan company based in Kigali that sells books to schools, higher educational institutes, teachers, students and other customers in need of learning books. It was founded in 2006 and is

Drakkar is an enterprise with a passion for quality education. Rwanda’s educational system has only recently switched to English and has not yet developed a culture for using books as a method of teaching. Our vision is therefore to create a culture of reading in Rwanda, starting with the schools. Besides from selling books we implement activities to increase reading in the community.

About the position
For our office in Gishushu/Remera we are looking for a new Business Development Manager to look after our sales and find new ways to increase them. We are very depended on good sales every month so we need someone who can think creatively and be innovative.
As we are a small office, your tasks will be very diverse and include, among others, the following:
Manage the office (3-4 employees).
This includes organise and facilitating the weekly meeting, follow up with sales persons and monitor their performance, have the overview of the business progress and write monthly the sales-reports.

Sales
Besides following up with all sales people and help them sell even more you will also be a part of the sales team and be responsible for higher learning books and readers/novels from the series called Junior African Writers Series and African Writers Series – these are mostly sold to NGO’s. This means that you need to visit current and potential customers and follow up on these. You will also develop marketing strategies for primary, secondary and higher education and coordinate the implementation of activities to enhance Drakkar’s sales (school visits, educational events and competitions, sales exhibitions etc). It is also your responsibility to identify and create CSR & sponsoring opportunities and establish partnerships with education institutes and non-profit organisations. In general your task is always to look for new ways to increase sales and grow the business.

Communication
You will be responsible for our external and internal communication. That includes for example updating the website, facebook and internal communication platforms.

Social activities
Drakkar is running a social programme called the Drakkar Creativity Boost. You will be responsible for this. It is a programme where a group of volunteers visits schools each month and do creative activities with the children.

Other
Pro-actively support the Managing Director in general business development, quality management, strategic planning and other tasks.
Write grant-proposals to different donors for reading-projects.

Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a creative and dedicated person with a hands-on attitude, who knows how to work independently and how to motivate our small local team of marketing and sales representatives. The ideal candidate has:
• Leadership experience. Proven ability to take initiative, delegate, coordinate activities, set priorities and motivate staff.
• Minimum a bachelor degree and 2 years of experience or secondary school and 5 years of experience.
• Excellent interpersonal skills. Experience in the field of marketing and sales is a big plus.
• Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and fluency in English. Knowledge of French and/or Kinyarwanda is a plus.
• High motivation to transform a small enterprise with lots of opportunities (but limited resources) into a prospering and sustainable business.
• Talent to spot opportunities and come up with new ideas to strengthen Drakkar’s performance in delivering quality education.
• Honest and curious attitude. Obviously, you have an interest in the field of education in a development context.

What do we offer?
We offer a challenging position within a young enterprise. You will have the opportunity to be creative and take initiative to develop our business. You will also have the opportunity to develop your management skills and achieve tangible results in improving the quality of the Rwandan educational sector. We offer you a salary that covers the costs of living in Kigali – between 600-800 USD dollars (take-home) depending on experience.
The position is a full-time position with a 2-year renewable contract. The start-date is flexible, but ideally in September.
