THE DANISH EMBASSY IN TANZANIA IS LOOKING FOR THREE INTERNS FROM FEBRUARY 2013
The Embassy of Denmark in Dar es Salaam is the focal point in the partnership between Tanzania and Denmark. Tanzania is Denmark’s largest programme country and Danish aid to Tanzania covers a variety of areas.
In spring semester 2013 three interns will be recruited to work with Public Diplomacy/Governance, the Health Sector and Macroeconomic analysis/Private Sector development respectively. An internship at the Danish embassy will challenge you, help you to apply your technical skills in practice and further develop your competencies in your field of study. And you will be given the opportunity to live in Dar es Salaam, guaranteeing experiences of African culture, white sandy beaches and a rich social life.
PUBLIC DIPLOMACY AND GOOD GOVERNANCE
If you are interested in working with public diplomacy/communication and international development in Africa, an internship at the Embassy of Denmark in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, could be of interest to you. You will be part of the Macro-economic and Good Governance section, which is also responsible for public diplomacy and communication.
Qualifications
• Bachelor degree in journalism, media studies, communication, political science, international relations, development studies or similar
• Strong communications skills
• Knowledge of and preferable experience with international development issues
• Excellent qualifications in English written and oral
• Strong interpersonal skills
Areas of work
As an intern you will take part in the daily work at the embassy and the team in particular. Your primary tasks will be:
• Supply Danish media with stories about Tanzania, the impact of Danish development assistance, business opportunities etc.
• Supply Tanzanian media with stories about Denmark, Danish development assistance and broader political issues of relevance to the Danish-Tanzanian relations
• Update and maintain the Embassy’s webpage and Facebook profile including producing news stories
• Assist the embassy with general communication assignments
• Support the Macro-economic and Good Governance team at the Embassy working with e.g. strengthening civil society, media, gender equality, the legal sector and public financial management
• Participate in dialogue with different partners and stakeholder incl. government, civil society organisations and other development partners

HEALTH SECTOR
If you are interested in working with the Health Sector in a developing country in Africa, then a six month internship at the Embassy of Denmark in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, could be relevant for you. You will be a part of the health sector unit with a particular focus on the Mainland Component under the Danish funded Health Sector Programme Support phase IV (HSPS IV) to Tanzania.
Qualifications
We are looking for an intern to work with the health sector unit that aims to improve the health and well-being of all Tanzanians with focus on those most at risk, and to encourage the health system to be more responsive to the needs of the people.
You must at least hold the following qualifications:
• Bachelor in Health Economics, Medicine, Pharmacy, Health science, Social science, or similar with a major interest in international health development.
• Strong language skills in oral and written English.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a team is desirable.
Areas of work
As an intern you will get the opportunity to work closely with health sector aspects of health systems strengthening and health development in Tanzania Mainland. You will participate in the overall coordination of health sector activities including the policy dialogue with stakeholders (Development Partners, Ministries, Civil Society Organisations, as well as Private Health Providers).
Under the framework of the HSPS IV Programme and with the health sector team, the intern will carry out the following tasks:
• Follow up on implementation and monitoring of HSPS IV activities.
• Follow up application of Comprehensive Council Health Plan (CCHP) guideline.
• Analyse data and summarise key health sector documents.
• Update relevant sector data base from time to time.
• Search and dissemination of relevant documents to stakeholders.
• Identification of relevant news for posting in the Embassy website.
• Carry out any other duties as may deem necessary.
o Participate in dialogue and relevant meetings with different partners and stakeholder incl. government, civil society organisations and other development partners

MACROECONOMIC ANALYSIS AND PRIVATE SECTOR DEVELOPMENT
Are you interested in working with international development in Africa and have a special interest in macroeconomics and private sector development? Then an internship at the Danish Embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, may interest you. You will be part of the Private Sector Development Team as well as the Macro-economic and Governance section.
Qualifications
• Bachelor degree in (macro) economics
• Interest in and preferable experience with international development issues
• Excellent qualifications in English written and oral
• Working knowledge of Kiswahili is an advantage
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills
Areas of work
As a trainee you will take part in the daily work at the embassy and the two teams in particular. Your primary tasks will be:
• Provide analytical work in relation to issues related to private sector development.
• Contribute to and prepare economic and sector analytical papers, including macro analytical work in relation to the implementation of the Danish contribution to General Budget Support to Tanzania.
• Retain a close contact with national research institutes and key civil society partners engaged in socio-economic research.

TERMS OF INTERNSHIP
The intern must hold a Danish citizenship and be enrolled at an institution of higher education. The internships will begin 1 February 2013 and last 6 months. The internships are unpaid, but the Embassy provides a monthly supplement of DKK 3,000 to partly cover the cost of living. The current interns will assist in finding accommodation.
