CU Malawi is implementing an exciting new 2 yr
project with funding
from the European Union (through the National
Authorising Office in
the Ministry of Finance) and Solidaridad
We are looking to recruit experienced, dynamic and
multi disciplinary
person to till the following vacancy. S/he should
be firmly committed
to delivering lasting positive improvements to the
communities that we
serve and delivering CU’s mission and upholding
our values of human
dignity, community focus, integrity and partnership
This project is predominantly being implemented in
Dwangwa and
Chikhwawa and support 3,429 sugarcane grower
target beneficiaries and
their surrounding communities, as supported under
Phases I and II,
plus the new Phata scheme expansion members
(approx. 340) It may
provide some limited support to expected entrants
to the sugar sector,
such as GBI farmers in Salima as well as those to
be under the Ethanol
producing companies in Chikhwawa and Dwangwa, to
respond to specific
unmet gaps in other upcoming capacity building
projects for these
target groups, subject to approval by the NAO
The overall objective level indicators are
Reduction in percentage of rural population living
on less than
US$1/day, Increase over baseline of households
owning capital and/or
productive assets
The specific objective of this third phase is to
improve the
livelihoods and wellbeing of 3,429 Malawi sugar
outgrowers as well as
their ability to influence the future of the sector
This will be achieved through 3 outputs –
Improved accountability, transparency and
responsiveness of all
outgrower organisations to membership, Enhanced
governance and
knowledge management within the Malawi sugar
sector, Increased
incomes, productivity, diversification and wider
social wellbeing of
sugar outgrowers
Social Advisor – Concern Universal – Dwangwa
Minimum first degree in social science or other
relevant discipline,
At least 3 yrs experience in civic education and
integration of cross
cutting issues in development projects, Knowledge
and experience of
REFLECT approach highly desirable, Proven track
record of leadership
role in at least in one of cross cutting
components and good
understanding of adult literacy approaches
Lead on the implementation of a comprehensive
civic education
programme, Coordinate integration of cross cutting
issues in all
relevant aspects of the project, Suport grower
management with
appropriate policies and practice in gender, HIV
and AIDS, environment
and health and safety, Coordinate adult literacy
support tin
sugar-growing areas, Raise awareness and provide
training on
prevention and common health issues, Raise
awareness within grower’s
organisations and their communities on
reproductive health and
population management issues, Build capacity of
growers in climate
change preparedness/mitigation measures, Ensure
that training and IEC
materials are appropriate to the literacy levels
of growers, Input
data in the project M and E system
Reporting to the District Coordinator, the Social
Advisor will be
responsible for the integration of all
crosscutting issues, Civic
Education, Gender, HIV and AIDS and Environmental
Management in the
planning and implementation of the project
The successful candidate will be employed on a
contract up to 31st
