Satellite Hospital Laboratory technicians – 7 posts,
Location: Various District Laboratories, Contract: 8 months with possibility to
an extension for 2 months and the afternoon-renewable), Report to: Laboratory
Advisor

Attend all technical trainings as outlined in the PHIA standard operating
procedures (SOPS), Receive samples from the field survey teams and log them
into the existing LMIS., Ensure that samples are processed within the specified
TAT as outlined in the survey SOP, Prepare DBS
samples from the whole blood
samples and store them in designated freezers using LMIS in readiness for
shipping, Run HIV raid test on 5% of all the negative samples received from
every tester in the field using the SOP provided, Run Multispot/Geenious HIV
test on all HIV positive samples received from the field using the OP provided,
Run HIV Rapid test on the first 50 samples tested by each HTC atester as part
of EQA, Produce report on the number of : whole blood samples received, DBS
prepared, plasma liquots prepared, samples tested on Multispot HIV rapid test,
and EQA HIV and rapid tests done, Any other duties as assigned from time to
time, Prepare, review and submit the
quantitative progress reports as scheduled, liaise and work in close
collaboration with the Project Manager, Project coordinator, Community
mobilisation Coordinator, Procurement and logistics Officer,, the laboratory
staff at the health facilities and with the PHIA field survey teams, Manage
supplies following FEFO rules of stock management to avid service interruption,
Ensure that all relevant IQC for PHIA survey samples are performed accordingly
and well recorded as per survey SOP, Adhere to laboratory health safety
practices that strengthen the safety and efficiency of the laboratory
equipment, Pack and ship specimens to CRL using packing instruction 650 of
ICAO/IATA guidelines, Spin ad separate plasma from the whole blood samples to
make plasma aliquots and store them in the designated freezers using LMIS in
readiness for shipping

Minimum of Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology, Biomedical Sciences or
other related degree, Registered with Medical Council of Malawi, and with valid
renewed certificate, Minimum 2 yrs of laboratory experience in HIV testing and
in quality control and quality assurance procedures in a recognised health
facility, Practical experience in use of Lab Management information Systems
(LMIS) strongly preferred

Strong orgnisational and good analytical laboratory skills, Strong
interpersonal and communication (written and spoken) skills in English as well
as relevant local languages such as Chichewa, Tumbuka etc, Ability to meet
tight deadlines and to successfully manage multiple assignments concurrently,
Ability to work non-standard working hours in order to ensure 24 hour operation
cycle, Ability to problem solve and work as a team member, Proficiency in
relevant computer applications; MS Word, Excel, Internet, Email, etc, Ability
to function independently or with minimal supervision, Ability to adhere to
medical research health ethics, as provided

Position will require being posted to a series of different zones across the
country since the study will be implemented in phases
