Classification of water pollution

Water pollution can be classified
into two.
Point
source of water pollution
: This is the discharged of
pollutant from specific locations. Such as drain pipes or sewer outfall etc
from factories, power plants, sewage treatment plant, and underground coal
mines and oil wells etc. These sources are discrete and identifiable, so they
are relatively easy to be monitored and regulated.

Non
point source of water pollution:
these sources are
scattered diffuse, having no specific location where they discharged into a
particular body of water. Non point source are run off from farm fields and
feed lots golf courses, construction sites, logging area, roads, street,
streets are parking lots. Non point source is often highly episodic.
