ELIGIBILITY:
To
be eligible for appointment, you must be:

City of Toronto resident - 18
years of age or older - not
employed by the City of Toronto or one of its agencies or corporations - not
a spouse, partner, child, or parent of a Member of Toronto City Council
QUALIFICATIONS:

members should collectively represent a range of expertise and skills

RESPONSIBILITIES:

board is responsible for supervising the management of the BUILD TORONTO
Corporation’s business and affairs, including the following:

- developing
surplus lands and excess real estate with development potential owned by
the City and its agencies and corporations (“developing” may
include a wide range of activities focused on unlocking value including
acquiring and disposing of properties, project management, financing,
environmental remediation, planning and rezoning, and joint ventures with
other private and public sector organizations) - working
with other sectors in urban regeneration - remediating
brownfields - being
a catalyst for development - recommending
the optimal use of the City’s real estate holdings - using
financial incentive tools provided by the City

term of office for public members is two years, and public members serve until
their successors are appointed.

COMMITMENT:
COMMITMENT:
The
board generally meets eight times per year at the BUILD TORONTO offices located
near University Avenue and King Street in downtown Toronto. Board meetings are
held during the day and usually last three hours. Board members also
participate in the board’s three committees. The committees normally meet seven
times per year and meetings are held during the day and last two hours.

REMUNERATION:
Public
members receive a $5,000 annual retainer, plus $500 per meeting up to a maximum
of $15,000 per year. A public member who serves as Chair receives a $40,000
annual retainer.
