Experience the excitement of living and working at an active research centre in the “Polar Bear Capital of the World”. The Churchill Northern Studies Centre (CNSC)is an independent, non-profit research facility located 23km outside of Churchill, Manitoba. The CNSC moved into a brand new facility in June 2011 which includes state of the art green building technology and a large new kitchen/cafeteria. We provide accommodations and logistic services to scientific researchers, university courses, school groups and independent educational tour groups. We also provide educational programming to visitors from all over the world.
During the summer and fall, the CNSC cooking staff is responsible for the operation of a cafeteria serving 3 meals daily to groups ranging in size from 10-90 people. In collaboration with the Assistant Director, cooks will be responsible for menu planning, food ordering, inventory management and the supervision of kitchen helpers.
Salary ranges for these positions are:
• 1st Cook – $17.92 – 20.16/hr,
• 2nd Cook – $15.78 – 17.75/hr,
• Prep Cook – $13.64 – 15.35/hr,
• Salary dependant on experience, plus 4% vacation pay.
Flexible scheduling and split shifts will be required. Cooks will work up to 48 hours per week. Economy train travel from Winnipeg to Churchill return is also included. If required, room and board (private room with washroom), is available at the Centre for $435/month. Preference will be given to those individuals with experience in remote camp situations.
