Summary
Soma
Umenye

will work to improve reading outcomes in Kinyarwanda for at least 1 million
children in public and government-aided schools in Rwanda by the end of Grade
3. Specifically, Soma Umenye will target all children in Grades 1-3
attending public and government-aided schools nationwide and ensure that at
least 70 percent of students are able to read grade-level text with fluency and
comprehension by the end of Grade 3.
Principal
Duties and Responsibilities
The
Information Technology (IT) Coordinator will oversee all aspects of the IT
infrastructure for smooth functioning of the Some Umenye Project office and provide
IT support for project staff. The IT Coordinator will establish and maintain
the IT network of the office, and identify and troubleshoot any IT related
matters. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Ensure
    and maintain a stable, secure, and robust network infrastructure.
  • Install
    new software releases, system upgrades and ensure end user satisfaction.
  • Develop
    strategies for maintaining and advancing the IT infrastructure.
  • Ensure
    IT support to project staff during normal business hours of operation.
  • Respond
    to project staff phone calls and emails, assess type of request and
    address problems in an organized and efficient manner.
  • Provide
    support to end-user applications in the Windows 7 environment such as
    Microsoft Office Professional 2007 or 2010, and Office 365.
  • Responsible
    for handling problem recognition, research, resolution and follow-up for
    user problems, referring more complex problems as needed.
  • Set-up
    computers and phones for new employees.
  • Identify,
    troubleshoot, and fix network, printer, or desktop problems as necessary.
  • Follow-up
    with users on delays/resolution.
  • Maintain
    complete and accurate record of calls and emails received and update
    records as problems are resolved and users notified.
  • Assist
    users with software problems and questions.
  • Performs
    other duties and responsibilities as required.
Job
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s
    degree in IT or related sciences.
  • At
    least 3 years of network administration and IT related experience.
  • Proficiency
    in working with Windows 2008 and 2012 Server, Microsoft Office suite 2003,
    2007, 2010 and 2013, Windows XP, Windows 7 and 8 required.
  • Strong
    knowledge of wireless and wired LAN technologies protocols, programming
    and network security.
  • Ability
    to take initiative and work effectively in teams.
  • Excellent
    verbal and written English.
Level
of Effort and Location of Assignment
This
is a long-term position and the location of assignment is Kigali, Rwanda with
intermittent travel throughout the country.
