We welcome applications from all sections of the community and from people with diverse experience and backgrounds. Candidates with entrepreneurial vision and a close eye for scrutiny are being sought to oversee exciting changes at Hinchingbrooke hospital. Hinchingbrooke Health Care NHS Trust provides health care for the people of Huntingdonshire and surrounding areas, a population of approximately 161,000 people.
It has an annual income of over £90 million. Hinchingbrooke is currently part of the
“Next Steps Project”, an innovative process being led by NHS East of England’s Strategic Projects Team to find a new partner to run the hospital. This unique process proposes that the clinical and non-clinical services at the Hospital be provided via an operating franchise agreement.
The preferred bidder has been identified as Circle, an employee owned social enterprise that forms the largest partnership of clinicians in Europe.
The agreement is subject to approvals from the Department of Health and other
regulators. This is the first time that an operating franchise has been offered for
an NHS acute hospital in England, and uniquely it was achieved via an open and
competitive process. The Chair will lead the board that will ensure that the contractor
delivers those services to the levels specified in the Franchise contract. They also will
need to demonstrate an understanding of local views and ensure that patients’ interests are squarely at the heart of decision making.
