Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania (CCBRT) is a locally
registered NGO first established in 1994. It is the largest indigenous provider
of disability and rehabilitation services in the country. CCBRT aims to empower
people with disabilities and their families, improve their quality of life, an
d
ensure access to medical and rehabilitative treatment. Our Eye Department is
the most sought after of all CCBRT’s services, seeing between 300-400 patients
per day. As one of the three facilities known to consistently offer paediatric
ophthalmology surgeries to the general public in Tanzania, demand for
high-quality eye services for children is extremely high.
Made possible through the generous support of USAID’s Child Blindness Program
(CBP), we are looking for a passionate Paediatric Ophthalmologist to support
our clinics, as well as develop and initiate the training of fellows in
paediatric ophthalmology.
The role
As Paediatric Ophthalmologist at CCBRT, you will assess, examine and diagnose
paediatric patients, managing various and complex ophthalmic conditions and
using your sound judgement, with due consideration for both medical and
psychological aspects of patient care. You will carry out ophthalmic surgical
procedures, showing leadership and strong management skills in all aspects of
your work.
The facilitation of learning will be a key part of your role at CCBRT. As part
of the USAID CBP programme, two external ophthalmic fellows will be recruited
to CCBRT’s Eye Department, for whom you will develop training curricula, teach
and develop skills in the field of paediatric ophthalmology. You will
participate and contribute to research, departmental and organizational
strategy discussions, all the while managing departmental resources, ensuring
best practice development and instilling performance excellence. The
cohesiveness of the team is key, and you will encourage team building and
learning amongst junior staff, and pursue effective cross-departmental
communications. Finally, you will liaise with relevant external parties,
national and international institutions to promote the work of CCBRT’s
paediatric eye department and build key external links.
The candidate
Will ideally have:
· A Masters’ Degree in Medicine with specialisation in paediatric ophthalmology
from a recognised international institution and a sub-specialisation in
paediatric ophthalmology
· A minimum of 3 years’ experience in paediatric ophthalmology
· Working experience in sub-Saharan Africa
· Registration with the respective Medical Council
· Some research experience and publication of various research papers in the
past three years
· Fluent spoken and written English, and Swahili preferable
