Causes of Ophthalmia Neonatorum


According to Jackson
(2008), the cause of ophthalmia neonatorum are bacteria and bacteria condition
which are outlined below:

Neisseria gonorrhoeal (most important bacteria by its potential to
damage vision).
·        
Streptococcus pneumonia.
·        
Hemophilus.
·        
Staphylococcus aurous

·        
Escherichia species (E. coli).
·        
Pseudomonous species (rare)
·        
Streptococcus group A
·        
Chlamydia trachomatis
·        
Viruses and viral condition
·        
Herpes simplex
·        
Poor personal hygiene of mother during delivery
·        
Sexual intercourse with an infected person.
