Are
you a registered Capilano University student for 2016/17? Do you want to create
a more sustainable world starting on campus?

We’re looking for up to 5 Student Organizers to join our CapU Works team. As a Student Organizer, you will
be helping to create a more sustainable campus that motivates and enables
students to make positive change within the Capilano University community. Some
organizers will coordinate closely with EarthWorks,
the lecture series, others attend ChatLive
event, and everyone contributes to inspiring positive action.

If

a key leadership role in advancing sustainability on campus then… this
position is for you!
Skills

POSITION
TYPE:
Up
to 5 Paid Student Organizers positions – for Fall 2016 and Spring 2017
semesters
HOURS
OF WORK:
Based
on an average of 10 hours/week. Hours vary throughout the term to match
academic schedule and projects’ deliverables
SUPERVISION:
These
positions report to the Energy Manager, supported day to day by our
Sustainability Assistant.

about the Student Organizer CapU Works Positions
All
student organizers:
  1. Must
    attend and participate in CapU Works team training in late August, CapU
    Works (weekly) meetings and at least two student outreach activities per
    semester.
  2. Must
    understand the opportunities and challenges of creating sustainable,
    implementable change on campus
  3. Must
    review the existing CapUWorks’ project history (created by the previous
    Student Organizers)
  4. Are
    responsible for maintaining and updating program records. Organizers pass
    information from year to year, building upon past successes, to facilitate
    future Student Organizers’ success.
All
student organizers will have minor administrative responsibilities, including
but not limited to:
  • Monthly
    time sheet submissions to the Sustainability Assistant
  • Taking
    meeting minutes and notes at EarthWorks/CapU Works meetings
  • Recording
    participation levels
In
order to complete the delivery of CapU Works programs, our team will need to:
Attend
and participate in:
  • EarthWorks
    planning (monthly) meetings
  • EarthWorks
    lecture series
  • ChatLive
    sessions
  • Student
    organizer-lead events, such as Invasive Species Pulls, Farmers’ Markets,
    Ode to Spring and the Student Union Environmental Justice Collective.
Create
and share:
  • Success
    stories, blogs, social media posts
  • Impact
    reports written after each event
  • Mobile
    promotional information boards that can be displayed at events
Organize
and deliver outreach activities, which have included in the past:
  • National
    Sweater Day, Your Powerful Shot photo contest, Building Challenge
  • Ode
    to Spring, Invasive Species Pulls, Art with Invasive Plants Workshops
  • 30
    Day Challenge, Mobilizing Local Resources, International Bear Day
  • Farmers’
    Markets, Zero Waste campaigns, Earth Hour/Day
