TITLE: BOOK DEVELOPMENT AND USE INTERN

immediate and lasting change for children through high impact activities
including in education. We work together with partners to inspire breakthroughs
in the way the world treats children. Save the Children Rwanda implements an
exciting multifaceted program in Rwanda which aims to provide children with
continuum of services focused on improving their learning outcomes with a focus
on improving early grade literacy. One approach of Advancing the Right to Read
(ARR) supports the development and use of quality Kinyarwanda children’s books.
Through training and coaching, the Book Development and Use team builds the
knowledge, skills and capacity of local publishers, authors, illustrators and
designers so that they are better prepared to develop more and better
Kinyarwanda children’s books. SCI Rwanda country office seeks to hire
qualified, committed and experienced national to fill the above position.

PURPOSE
OF POSITIONS:

The purpose of this role is to provide project implementation support to the
Book Development and Use team as part of an effort aimed at increasing the
availability of more and better Kinyarwanda children’s books. The Book
Development and Use Intern will be reporting to Book Development and Use
Coordinator and will contribute to the planning and implementation of relevant
activities.
KEY
AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
Programme
Planning and Implementation Assistance
  • Sit
    on the Book Review committee and contribute to book evaluation and book
    selection
  • Maintain
    a collection of Book Development and Use (BDU) materials, including all
    books, posters and other materials
  • Ensure
    that these materials are availed to relevant stakeholders and potential
    partners
  • Support
    in organization of Children’s Book Forum, Book Purchasing Consortium as
    well as public literacy events
  • Encourage
    greater BDU publicity by liaising with media houses
  • Serve
    as focal point for coordinating other Signature Program book orders
  • Provide
    hands on support to different activities of BDU, including supporting the
    organization and implementation of workshops and trainings, assisting in
    translation needs, ensure that BDU project files are established and
    maintained.
  • With
    the support from the Book Development and Use Coordinator, process the
    purchase of approved book titles for distribution to community libraries
    and follow-up the logistics of distribution in collaboration with the
    procurement department and follow up with Publishers for timely delivery
    of books and other materials
  • Perform
    any other duties assigned by Book Development and Use Coordinator.
Monitoring,
Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) support
  • Facilitate
    program monitoring activities including monitoring materials distribution
    to program beneficiaries
  • Provide
    support in project evaluation activities including baseline, midline and
    end line evaluation
  • Create
    and maintain a database for Book Development and Use
  • Assume
    responsibility for ensuring monitoring data is entered and information
    used to inform project decision making
  • Identify
    and document key lessons learned from the project including case studies
    and success stories.
Logistical
support
  • Prepare
    procurement requests for the BDU
  • Organize
    for transportation of BDU team
  • Give
    any other logistical support for the BDU team

JOB
REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor
    degree in social sciences, education or related fields
  • 1
    year work experience, preferably in an NGO set up and good understanding
    of the fields of education, literacy and publishing sector
  • Excellent
    organizational, problem solving skills and details orientation
  • Highly
    developed relationship building and interpersonal skills
  • Highly
    developed verbal and communication skills in Kinyarwanda and English
  • Ability
    to liaise with a diverse range of people and stakeholders
  • Strong
