The Civics Education Network is looking for new board members and volunteers! Through four years of hard work, we have held a number of teacher conferences, student think tanks and other events related to the way civics is taught in the classroom. Today CEN is delighted to announce that it is holding an open house; a celebration and an Annual General Meeting all rolled into one. Everyone is invited to come out, have a drink with us and chat about our plans for the coming year. If you are as passionate about civic education as we are, or if something about us strikes a chord, we’d love to have you join our email list or even our board of directors.
When is this?
Tuesday June 21st, 5:30-6:30pm
Where is it?
L’Espresso (321 Bloor St. W., NW corner of Bloor W and St. George)
Who are you?
The Civics Education Network is a registered charity dedicated to supporting and enhancing political education in Ontario. We focus on delivering professional development to teachers and experiences to students through the programs which already exist in our public schools. We are also developing programs which would support student initiatives and an awards program to recognize achievements in the areas of civic and political engagement.
What type of commitment are you looking for?
Our Board of Directors is an active one. Along with the Executive Director, they run the organization on a day-to-day basis. This means that they meet every two weeks (normally Wednesdays at 5:30pm), often at a coffee shop in downtown Toronto. Board meetings are both informal and productive. As a board member you’d be expected to attend as many of these meetings as possible and do some work in between. If you can’t attend every meeting, that’s quite ok too.
Should I come out?
Absolutely! Come out, have a drink and chat with like-minded individuals.
Who should I contact for more information?
Send emails to Stephen Young, Executive Director – stephen.young@civicsnetwork.ca
