Responsibilities
Policy advocacy duties

• Identify, in conjunction with the Country Director, Legal Services
Coordinator (LSC) and Community Empowerment and Outreach Coordinator (CEOC),
priorities for policy advocacy.
• Draft, review and edit reports, submissions, recommendations, op.eds,
articles and other documents related to policy advocacy.


• Research refugee law and developments in the field.
• Collaborate with the Country Director to develop and maintain constructive
relationships with key governmental, intergovernmental and nongovernmental
players in Tanzania to advocate for refugee rights.
• Collaborate with the Country Director to represent AATZ in meetings with
partners, such as UNHCR, NGOs and other civil society actors.
• Organize and conduct training sessions with advocates, legal aid providers,
government officers and other stakeholders about refugee rights.
• Organize meetings with stakeholders.
• Collect data and analyze trends about AATZ clients to support policy advocacy
work.
• Brief AATZ team on policy developments and legislative amendments.
• Liaise with HQ policy advocacy staff to implement policy advocacy
initiatives.
• Undertake other responsibilities related to policy advocacy as assigned by
the Country Director Communications duties.
• Implement AATZ communications plan.
• Draft AATZ annual reports and biannual newsletters.
• Oversee the collection and storage of information about our work in the form
of success stories, photos, quotes by clients, partners and other stakeholders
for use in AATZ advocacy work, reporting and general communication.
• Liaise with HQ communications team to provide information about AATZ’s work.
• Foster relationships with the media including journalists.
• Undertake other responsibilities related to communications as assigned by the
Country Director General duties.
• Train and supervise Volunteer Legal Advocates involved in policy and
communications tasks.
• Assist with human resources tasks such as interviewing prospective employees.
• Prepare quarterly and annual reports and information materials for internal
records to ensure compliance with organizational monitoring and evaluation
standards and reporting to funders, partners and the general public.
• Provide support to LSC for client matters through court representation,
drafting documents and other related tasks.
• Undertake strategic litigation initiatives and other tasks as directed by the
Country Director
• Reporting you will report directly to the AATZ Country Director for all work
responsibilities and professional development. You will also liaise with the HQ
policy team to implement policy initiatives.

Qualification
requirements (education, experience and skills)
Essential
• Minimum four years’ relevant work experience, including at least one year of
experience working in the refugee field.
• Law degree, preferably with human rights and/or refugee specialization.
• Admitted to practice law in Tanzania.
• Fluency in Kiswahili and English, including strong writing skills.
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Negotiation and relationship building skills.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment

Desirable
Experience in:
• Court representation
• Working at NGOs
• Supervising staff
• Working in cross-cultural environments
• Conducting capacity building activities

Salary &
benefits
Annual Basic Salary: Between TZS 36, 120,000/= and 38,700,000/= (depending on
the experience)
Medical Cover: NHIF Medical Scheme (Fully paid for by the employer)
Pension: 15% employer contribution to the pension fund
Other: Cost for renewal of the practising certificate;
30 working days leave per annum

Contract length
• Full-time position for one year (6 month probation) with a possibility of
renewal depending on the needs of the organization and performance of the
incumbent.
