Assistant Professor Faculty Positions in Solar Fuels at Utrecht University, Netherlands

Job description
For ambitious researchers with academic aspirations in photocatalytic reduction of CO2 into liquid fuels by use of inorganic catalytic materials.

The recently established alliance between Utrecht University (UU) and Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) supports their most excellent groups, amongst others in the fields of Catalysis, to set up novel challenging research programs. The Solar Fuels initiative builds on existing strengths in the field of Inorganic Chemistry and Catalysis and fits within the focal area of sustainable energy. Successful candidates will be asked to set up a highly collaborative and innovative research program. It represents the ambition of the Eindhoven-Utrecht alliance to foster excellent collaborative research with strategic investments in people and infrastructure.

The profiles of the two positions are highly complementary and intensive collaboration between the groups is expected. The focus of the Eindhoven position is on knowledge generation of the reaction mechanism relevant to artificial photosynthesis with the aim to guide the design and synthesis of novel inorganic materials for photo-, electro- and photoelectrochemical catalysis. The Utrecht position concentrates on advanced in-situ micro-spectroscopic investigations to study chemical processes in inorganic materials at the single molecule and/or single particle level.

Tasks in Education
You are expected to contribute to theoretical and practical courses for undergraduate and graduate students in the education programs of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry. You will participate in running courses, but are also encouraged to adapt existing courses or set up a new course in your specific field of interest. You will supervise PhD students and Postdocs that are directly appointed under your responsibility or in cooperation with a full professor of the laboratory.

Tasks in Research
You should be an excellent scientist, with independent ideas, capable of working across disciplines and be competent in leading a research group in Solar Fuels. You should establish a high-profile own line of research with which high international exposure and reputation is reached after a term of five years. Guidance of PhD students and postdocs is highly relevant in this respect, together with the acquisition of external funds for research.

Qualifications
Candidates should have a distinguished academic record, including a PhD degree in chemistry / chemical engineering or a related field, the motivation to excel in scientific research, and a commitment to both undergraduate and graduate teaching in the highly interdisciplinary departments.

Candidates with the appropriate level of experience and qualifications will be appointed to a temporary position for 5 years, with options for further continuation in one of the departments, depending on excellent performance and the financial conditions of the departments.
