We are looking to
recruit a Function Supervisor to join the ASRC Catering Team in Melbourne. The
successful applicant will be responsible for overseeing the running of ASRC
Catering functions, ensuring the business delivers high quality, ethical and
global food for weddings, cocktail parties, large multi-day conferences and
private events.

 

The Asylum Seeker
Resource Centre (ASRC) is the largest aid, employment, health and advocacy
organisation for people seeking asylum in Australia. The ASRC provides a range
of direct services as well as participating in law reform, campaigning and
lobbying. 

We are an
independent non-government organisation relying on community donations and
philanthropy for 95% of our funding.   We employ 80 staff and depend
on over 1300 dedicated volunteers.  We deliver services to over 2,000
people seeking asylum at any one time through programs such as material aid,
health, legal, employment, casework and Foodbank.

ASRC Catering
is a very successful social enterprise providing employment and on the job
training for asylum seekers as part of Asylum Seeker Resource Centre’s (ASRC)
Innovation Stream

The objective of
ASRC Catering is to provide employment and training opportunities for asylum
seekers. The ASRC believes that access to employment opportunities and skills
development for asylum seekers is an essential part in empowering them to break
free of poverty and disadvantage.

As a social
enterprise, all profits from ASRC catering are directed to the ASRC to fund our
program areas such as our health, foodbank, legal program, EAL and
material aid.

Catering
Function Supervisor

We are looking to
recruit a Function Supervisor to join the ASRC Catering Team in Melbourne. The
successful applicant will be responsible for overseeing the running of ASRC
Catering functions, ensuring the business delivers high quality, ethical and
global food for weddings, cocktail parties, large multi-day conferences and
private events.

The start date is
anticipated to be August /September 2016.

This is a casual
position – to suit the needs of the business.

Duties and responsibilities:
  • Training,
    mentoring and supervising staff, with a particular focus on floor service
    at events
  • Supervising
    staff in the responsible serving of alcoholic beverages
  • Exceptional
    customer service skills and the ability to liaise with a variety of
    clientele.
  • Function
    Management
  • Liaising
    with customer, venue and staff.
  • Strong
    negotiating capabilities to achieve positive outcomes for both the client
    & venue
Requirements:
  • High
    attention to detail and a passion for exceeding client expectations
  • At
    least four years’ relevant experience
  • Hands-on
    experience with food handling, coffee and beverage preparation as well as
    intimate knowledge of RSA, OH&S and Food Safety regulations
  • Positive
    solutions focused attitude, well developed problem-solving and analytical
    skills
  • Excellent
    interpersonal, communication, organisational and time management skills
  • Ability
    to drive, inspire and lead a successful team culture
  • A warm
    personal leader’s demeanour with a team focused view to deliver impeccable
    customer service
  • Liaise
    with, and ensure good relationships are maintained with staff and
    customers

Selection
Criteria

This position will
suit someone with a strong hospitality background. The successful candidate
will possess the following:

  • Previous
    experience supervising staff and managing events.
  • Keen
    interest in the hospitality industry
  • Ability
    to create new, innovating ideas and contribute to continuous improvement
  • Have a
    high standard of personal presentation and professionalism
  • Responsible
    Service of Alcohol Certificate is Essential
  • Food
    Handlers Certificate is Essential
  • Experience
    in Excell in and Windows well regarded

Salary
& Conditions

This position is a
casual role under the Hospitality Award.  The salary for the position will
be dependent on experience.  As we are a Not For Profit up to $15,899 per
annum can be salary packaged, plus employer’s superannuation contribution and
annual leave loading.  Additional Meals and Entertainment Salary Packaging
is also available.

employment with ASRC, paid or voluntary are subject to continued compliance
with our Child Safety and Reporting Policy. All or any breaches to this policy
may result in disciplinary action being taken and/or the cessation of the
employment contract or volunteer agreements.

employment are subject to a satisfactory Criminal History Check and provision
of a valid Working with Children Check prior to commencement.
