The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), an African-led organization that is supporting and working with National Agricultural Research Organization to catalyze development and adoption of-new crop
technologies. Through support for maize breeding under the Cereals Program at NaCRRI we would like to hire a Research Assistant to assist to implement some of the activities. The Research Assistant will primarily be responsible for supporting the activities of a comprehensive breeding program.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
• Prepare for and conduct planting, field maintenance, data collection and harvesting
• Assist in computer related activities and provide support for breeding and field testing activities
• Supervise and train temporary employees
• Work closely with other research sites to keep program activities operating efficiently
• Assist in other projects and perform other duties as and when required
• The successful Research Assistant has the opportunity to work in all operations related to field trials, seed preparation, field plot management, data collection, harvesting and trial plots.
Required Skills/Experience:
• BSc degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Plant Breeding, Horticulture or related fields.
• Possession of Masters Degree in relevant field will be an added advantage.
• Basic understanding of farm equipment maintenance. Understanding of field research methodologies
