Action
Against Hunger is an international non-governmental, private, apolitical,
non-religious and non-profit organization created in 1979. Its goal is to
combat hunger and dangerous situations that threaten men, women and children.
Currently 500 expats and more than 5,000 employees are working for Action
Against Hunger in more than forty-six countries working in projects concerning
four areas of focus: nutrition, health, food security and water and s

anitation.

GENERAL
OBJECTIVES
·
Provide technical support and inputs on the DRR component of a multi-sector
project in Blantyre, Southern Malawi
·
Lead the Participatory Capacity and Vulnerability Assessment (PCVA) process
with the local communities to identify possible WASH interventions, and conduct
disaster mapping processes
·
With the field team, and community participation, develop Village Disaster
Management Plans (VDMPs)
·
To liaise with local government structures and district extension offices of
line ministries in the linkages of village plans with the local, district and
national planning process.

CANDIDATE
PROFILE
·
Bachelor’s degree in disaster risk management or social studies with a specific
focus on community based response modalities/or a relevant degree with field
experience.
·
Knowledge of CBDRR approaches.
·
Knowledge of basic WASH focused mitigation measures.
·
Knowledge of PCVA methodologies.
·
Knowledge of the development of disaster management plans.
·
At least 3 years’ experience working on disaster management projects in remote
communities.
·
At least 3 years’ experience working in an INGO.
·
Previous experience working with community based projects.
·
Previous experience working with and alongside governmental structures.
·
Previous experience working with multi-sector projects.
·
Previous experience working in Southern Africa (desirable).
·
Previous experience working with remote communities.
·
Previous working experience with Action Against Hunger (desirable).
·
Previous experience with disaster and development plans for rural communities.
·
Gender approach acknowledgement would be an asset.
·
English (required), knowledge of local language (Chechewe) advantageous,
Spanish/French (advantageous).
·
Full literacy with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, etc), GIS
(advantageous), Full familiarity with Windows OS, SPSS and other data
management software an advantage.
·
National mobility required.
REMUNERATIVE
PACKAGE
We
offer immediate incorporation to a dynamic international network with the
following remuneration package:
  • Formal
    work contract: 3 months starting the 1st of December.
  • Base:
    Blantyre, Malawi.
  • Salary:
    from 1700€ to 2220€ gross per month according to candidate’s
    previous experience (according to standard list of Action Against Hunger).
    Action Against Hunger – Spain remuneration system allows a salary
    progression based on the annual development appraisal.

  • Up
    to 20% additional remuneration
    depending on the position’s
    context and responsibilities (according the grading scale set by Action
    Against Hunger)
  • House
    and maintenance covered by the organization (including per diem): package
    estimated according to the destination.
  • Travel
    costs to and from the mission.
  • 25
    working days of paid leave per year.
  • Break:
    additional rest period, including travel cost to a reference area and
    economic help of 215€.
  • Health,
    repatriation, travel and life insurance covered by the organization.
  • Extra
    per month and per child (Under 18 years old): from 100€ to 225€ monthly
    (according to standard list of Action Against Hunger).
